Writer pals: the scam reaching-out emails to authors are becoming increasingly convincing. As ever the fastest tells are overuse of the rule of three and the email address, which will be a gmail rather than the publisher's own domain: [email protected] rather than [email protected].

If there's a term related to comics fairs/festivals/cons that we really need to retire it's "pity buys". Let's think of them as "empathy buys" instead. You're facilitating someone getting the story they wanted out into the world and reaching one more reader. There's nothing disparaging about that!

Comic tip for artists who struggle with layouts or making each page not so same-y: be less literal about where your characters are sometimes. Become more artsy with emotions they feel or information they share, you don't need them standing in the same room/position like a scene from a movie

treat your body like a data center. consume as much water, art and literature as possible. upset local municipalities with your existence.

one of the best decisions you can make as an artist is to stop talking about your artwork from a position of defending it. the artists statement should be a tool of pride, community, and conversation, not an appeal to those who had no interest in (or ability to) understand it in the first place.
