Some nature writing at my blog, if you like that sort of thing.

Last year was spectacular mate. Should I be spared into 2027 I'll have to plan something interesting too

A brilliant day mate, hard to believe it's been a year.
On this day last year - Scilly for a magnificent St Agnes quartet of Mourning Dove, American Pipit, Spotted Sandpiper and Hoopoe with good friends. One of the best days of my 2025 'Big Year' #ukbirding
Absolutely worth it!
A few more of the Leach's Petrel close in at Leasowe at high tide. I'll be cleaning salt and sand out of my beard for days... #ukbirding #birds
A quick dash over to New Brighton and Leasowe this morning across high tide to see half a dozen distant Leach's Petrels and then one close in. Good to see Arctic and Great Skuas and @jkylesmith.bsky.social and Kev in the wild. #UKbirding #birds
Autumn birding in the 10k circle is my favourite, and I indulged myself with a 6 hour, 11 mile trek up hill and across Moss. 87 species of birds including Cattle Egret, Hen Harrier, Wheatear, Swallow, Pink-footed Geese, Tree Sparrow and many more. #ukbirding #birds
Great pictures!
North of Manchester, just on the birder of Lancashire at Belmont Reservoir.
I saw one at Warham very distantly a few years back, with absolutely loads of Hen Harriers
Cheers!
Wow, that's amazing! I don't have any direct wing for wing comparison shots of each bird, would be interesting to see a few different angles.
It's stunning Martin, hope one visits you soon!
Good to see you Keith - great footage!
After watching it for 4 hours this morning the Pallid Harrier gave a single close(ish) flyby, hunting Teal and Snipe on the reservoir shore. What a bird! #ukbirding #birds
I'd say so Andy, plumage patterns seem identical, and Marshside bird has been missing since this has been here.
Juvenile Pallid Harrier at Belmont attracting quite the crowd this morning. #ukbirding #birds
I'll get the news out quickly if I see it. Good luck!
I hope the Harrier does one more day at least. I'll be up there in the morning to check. Always a good place to check for raptors! Glad the Osprey showed well for you
I'm so jealous, my first year with no visit to Scilly in 6 years! Great footage of that Sora 👍
