His arc this season was really terrific! p.s. thank you for the fight you're fighting

@lisafdavis.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 6:12 PM

Lovely!

This is a terrific overview of different types of fragmented manuscripts, from binding fragments to cuttings to whole leaves! Really beautiful examples of objects that have been through a lot to make it from there and then to here and now. #fragmentology

I see Skyria too, which sounds like some kind of phamaceutical in a TV ad...

Taggin @drcolinl.bsky.social!

Thanks, Jim!

Wonderful schematic!

@lisafdavis.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 8:56 PM

That's exactly what we're saying! How can you read a book if the pages are out of order?

@lisafdavis.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 8:49 PM

Correct! The composition of the various inks & pigments are CONSISTENT with the early 15th c., but their date cannot be firmly established with current forensics. All we can say is that the animals (whose skin became the parchment pages) were slaughtered in the first half of the 15th c.

@lisafdavis.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 7:16 PM

I have no idea. But we really know very little about knowledge that may have depended on oral traditions.

@lisafdavis.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 7:01 PM

Another Voynich researcher just created a resource that let's you reorder the manuscript, and they pre-populated the "order" dropdown in the upper right corner with my hypothetical sequence! voynichviewer.com

@lisafdavis.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 7:00 PM

We have no way to know who wrote the manuscript until, and if, we can read it. There were women physicians, even if they weren't going to university.

@lisafdavis.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 6:19 PM

There's no connection to Galen and no reason why we should assume it was written by men.

@lisafdavis.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 2:20 PM

But without the reward...

@lisafdavis.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 2:16 PM

Yes!

@lisafdavis.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 2:12 PM

Well, it represents the *current* state, which is important! Fortunately, we can use digital tools to hypothetically reconstruct the original order.

@lisafdavis.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 1:45 PM

That's not what we're arguing. The argument is that there were five scribes working at the same time. If you read our article that is linked in the Guardian, you will see how it plats out

@lisafdavis.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 12:32 PM

In today's @theguardian.com, an article about the #Voynich work Colin Layfield and I have been doing: www.theguardian.com/culture/2026...

@lisafdavis.bsky.socialOct 4, 2026, 4:04 PM

Over on VoynichNinja (an excellent discussion board with lots of solid linguistic & cryptological work), someone posted this new resource based on my (credited!) work that lets you visualize structure & rearrange quires, bifolia, and pages! It's incredibly cool and really valuable. voynichviewer.com
