Clearing ‘immune fog’ could stop lung cancer before diagnosis

The study followed the fog signal using prototype blood tests and reversed it using drugs. Potentially opening up new ways to intercept the disease in its early, pre-cancerous stages.

Prof Jason Carroll and Dr Shalini Rao of our Carroll Group have received new funding from Pancreatic Cancer UK. This will empower the Carroll Group to investigate which proteins work with FOXA1 in pancreatic cancer metastasis.

Researchers at the Crick have shown that a surge in immune cell production in response to an indirect injury or infection can reactivate dormant cancer cells inside the bone, potentially leading to relapse.

MSK scientists from the Scott Lowe Lab and the Daniel Heller Lab engineered nanoparticles to target cells driving scarring around many liver and lung tumors. In mice, this reduced scarring and helped immunotherapy shrink tumors that resisted treatment.
