We review new music and discuss rock legacies of its iconic stars. That includes hard rock, garage punk/rock, heavy psych, psychobilly, punk rock, our namesake action/high energy rock, as well as the legacy acts that inspired them.
@actionrockcorner.bsky.socialWine Lips from Toronto, Canada has a really good record out, TV Dinner. It's garage punk/psychedelic with topical lyrics & a certain commercial polish. My fav tunes are Semi Detached Furnished Home (about affordable housing), Strip Club DJ, Giant Man Baby, & Thirst Trap. youtu.be/OXglU2Ixbgw?...
@actionrockcorner.bsky.socialPsychedelic Source Records is a Hungarian instrumental, improvised psych/space/stoner/jam rock collective. They have released over 100 albums since forming in 2017. They just get together in a studio or a rural field and jam. It's just amazing stuff. youtu.be/SxuFsNUsu5w?...
@actionrockcorner.bsky.socialTranquonauts are a heavy psych/space/stoner rock Australian/American supergroup to check out. Seedy Jeezus is the core of the band. Then add Isiah Mitchell from Earthless on guitar. Then add Tony Reed from Mos Generator. The storyline they created, you didn't miss a movie. youtu.be/2_dvyoOD_8w?...
@actionrockcorner.bsky.socialThe Hard-Ons team up with Poison Idea's Jerry A for an international punk supergroup. Pretty darn good record. My favorite two songs from this are Won't Shut Up and Dead End Turnaround. Who knew thirty-some years ago that a band named The Hard-Ons would be well-known now? youtu.be/CXCcR-NKFdk?...
@actionrockcorner.bsky.socialGenre Is Death new album Attractive People is punk/art/noise rock with glorious guitar tone and great mix and production. It is in the vein of Sonic Youth or Destroy All Monsters. My favorite three songs from the album are Safe Words, Attractive People, and I See Red. youtu.be/W4Zs4Sf4tk0?...
@actionrockcorner.bsky.socialDynamite Shakers sophomore record, Marilyn, is sung largely in French not English like their debut. I don't mind despite my flunking French totally in the 7th grade. This is lovely garage pop. My fav tunes are Cinema & Nightclub. The latter fav has a lyric video, in French. youtu.be/A7YS8C91Sno?...
@actionrockcorner.bsky.socialThe Limit is an unlikely team-up. Sonny Vincent, an OG NYC punk from the CBGB 70's scene with doom metal pioneer singer from Pentagram Bobby Liebling. What do we get? Action Rock, the name of this channel. Fav songs, Part Two: Screw You, Tryptophan, & Unchained. youtu.be/s0kZHrtpJ8w?...
@actionrockcorner.bsky.socialAmyl And The Sniffers release a cowpunk, largely acoustic, album? Yes. Amy still curses. She is still progressive. We can hear the lyrics more distinctly. At least we are in an age where we can hear this first before buying it. And there is a film that goes with this, youtu.be/QiGZepS34UY?...
@actionrockcorner.bsky.socialDead Boys founding lead guitarist Cheetah Chrome has died at the age of 71 years old. He was also a founding member of Rocket From The Tomb, a band whose split led to the formation of the Dead Boys and Pere Ubu. Rest In Power, Cheetah Chrome. youtu.be/toCcYNTjPRU?...
@actionrockcorner.bsky.socialThe Sex Pistols' guitarist Steve Jones has a wonderful career outside of the Pistols. An Iggy Pop record. Neurotic Outsiders supergroup w/GNR members. Two quite different solo albums. A band w/Michael Des Barres. An Andy Taylor solo w/The Turtles. Plus... Let's rank 'em. youtu.be/ccg9KipTaxE?...
@actionrockcorner.bsky.socialHawkwind. Anyone dislike Hawkwind? The main space rock for the past 56 years? Dave Brock still has new Hawkwind coming. But I appreciate this expanded reissue of the Sonic Assassins EP. Lights. Synths. Sci-Fi lyrics. Grooving guitars. Lemmy was in Hawkwind before Motorhead. youtu.be/0_3xWgqF26k?...
@actionrockcorner.bsky.socialCool list. I have physical media sections for about all of them except Genesis, Kansas (though I had their classics on 8-track in high school), Renaissance (couple vinyl back when), Enya, and Yes. I realized I did not care for mediocre prog.
@actionrockcorner.bsky.socialCleveland actually. Did go to Ohio State University for a time. The Godz' Gotta Keep A Runnin' was huge when I was in high school on the radio. The grandparents I graduated high school with even played it during our 45th high school reunion.
@actionrockcorner.bsky.socialNashville Pussy does a nice live version of Marshall Tucker Band's "Can't You See," which leads to their own song "Go To Hell."
@actionrockcorner.bsky.socialTim Curry died recently. My first post here on Bluesky was my ranking of his four rock albums in honor of his 80th birthday. In honor of his passing I recorded my ten favorite rock songs he did from those four albums. (Sweet Transvestite is not included.) youtu.be/P689DSRqsLY?...
@actionrockcorner.bsky.socialIntroduce yourself with 10 bands/musicians you've seen live. Nashville Pussy Joan Jett The Godz Parliament-Funkadelic Acid Mothers Temple Glenn Hughes Steve Jones (solo Sex Pistol) Brewer & Shipley Earthless Guitar Wolf
@actionrockcorner.bsky.socialTrump has to see the new video/single, We Hate, from the industrial rock band Ministry. If A.I. has to be used, use it like this. Trump french-kissing a male ICE agent is one thing, but a Trumper may bust a nut to this. Plus the song really rocks. youtu.be/yTvFNwgmmqw?...
