Yesterday, ICE shot Oscar Belgal in NYC while his 5-year-old son sat in the backseat.

It’s at least the 43rd shooting by federal immigration agents since Jan 2025, 11 fatal. $75B in ICE funding pays for this, not care.

NOT one penny more. Defund ICE. Fund Care. Abolish ICE.

We condemn these attacks on our care system. Everyone, regardless of income or immigration status, should have the right to high-quality care and supports.

While some states, such as California and New York, have policies in place protecting coverage loss, millions across the country are expected to lose benefits.

@domesticemployers.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 1:39 PM

At the same time, more federal cuts limiting Medicaid eligibility began rolling out on October 1. They will affect thousands of immigrants, including refugees and survivors of sex trafficking: individuals and families who need access to care.

@domesticemployers.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 1:39 PM

This is an attack not only on immigrants but on our entire system of care. Nobody should be punished for needing publicly funded care and support.

@domesticemployers.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 1:39 PM

Care should be a right for all.

In its latest attacks on publicly funded care, the federal government is now penalizing immigrants who receive public benefits such as SNAP and Medicaid by restricting their ability to apply for a green card.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Millions of disabled Californians continue to be excluded from the workforce, and our representation is critical.

Read the full report: https://bit.ly/CA-state-of-state-2026

Text says, β€œThe State of Disability in California | 2026. Disabled Californians are being left out of the workforce.” Data shows that 44% of working-age disabled Californians are employed, compared with 77% without disabilities; disabled workers face a 10.9% unemployment rate; and California has the nation’s 6th-highest disability unemployment rate. @domesticemployers.bsky.socialOct 2, 2026, 12:51 PM

Tuesday, bipartisan legislation H.Res. 1586 was introduced to Congress affirming the right of disabled people to live in their homes and communities, not segregated in institutions. Our partners including DREDF, AAPD and others have backed this legislation.

@domesticemployers.bsky.socialOct 2, 2026, 12:51 PM

We condemn these laws which target people with disabilities, and those that provide care.

@domesticemployers.bsky.socialOct 2, 2026, 12:51 PM

This is just the latest of sweeping attacks on our care system. We at Hand in Hand condemn this ruling and are committed to working with our members and partners to protect essential access to care and support.
