The changelog example is a Function that takes a prompt off the query string and returns the generated image itself, with the right content type on it. Aspect ratio and image size go in the config, and AI Gateway handles the connection to Google.

Sorry it's covering your nav. You can switch the drawer off per project in Project configuration > Developer settings > Continuous deployment > Collaboration tools > Configure. To hide it for one session, add ?ntl-drawer-state=hidden to the preview URL.

Netlify now runs Edge Functions on its own compute. The CPU, memory, and code size limits came from the old isolate model, and we're revisiting them now.

SvelteKit 3 requires Vite 8, so builds run on Rolldown.

Configuration also moves out of svelte.config.js and into vite.config.ts, which lets Vite plugins read it directly.

The MicroVMs behind Netlify Edge Functions start in about 2ms at p99. Idle functions scale to zero and restore from a memory-mapped snapshot, so they start running before the full snapshot loads.

On our old infrastructure, the request left our network at this point and came back over the internet. Keeping the whole path inside Netlify made warm invocations about 5x faster at the median.

The edge node picks a compute node with rendezvous hashing, so a function lands on the same node every time. Its MicroVM stays warm and its code stays cached. When one site takes a big share of a region's traffic, we spread it across a slice of nodes.

When a route matches, the edge node writes a spec for the machine that will run the function. It names the runtime, our platform image, and the function image. It also sets CPU, memory, and connection limits.

The request lands on the Netlify edge node closest to the client. The node terminates TLS and checks the path against the deploy's Edge Functions routes. Anything without a matching route goes on to the cache and origin as usual.

A warm request to a Netlify Edge Function now spends about 6ms on our side before the response heads back out. It passes through an edge node, a compute node, and a Firecracker MicroVM without leaving our network.

Every Netlify Edge Functions deploy now gets its own Firecracker MicroVM. Deploys with different code or env vars never share one, so a compromised deploy can't reach other customers or the compute layer.
