I know that my district wouldn’t be the place it is today without the enduring traditions, histories, culture, food, and celebrations of Indigenous Peoples.

In the 19th century, many Black people escaping enslavement in Louisiana were hidden by local Native American tribes. This blend of cultures gave rise to many of our city's traditions and customs we know and love today.

This investment will empower Dillard and 11 other HBCUs to continue preparing the next generation of Black doctors, nurses, educators, and leaders!

Black Americans, we’re taking our power back. Our health. Our wealth. And our democracy. This movement will not be televised.

This week, let’s recommit to having the difficult conversations, addressing barriers to care, breaking down stigmas, increasing access to culturally competent care, and ensuring everyone can find a mental health professional they can trust.

This week marks Mental Health Awareness Week! 

Awareness is step one in healing so many Americans suffering from mental health issues. My grandmother used to ask me, “Are you feeling blue?” That small conversation helped normalize discussions about mental health and remove the shame.

As a 23 year old staffer working in the Mayor’s office to my service today in Congress, I’ll never forget the lessons I learned from how you LED people and how you LIVED! Your life & legacy live on through us, Sir!
