But there are some very early instances of the Denman name in Devon & Somerset, and plausible theories that the name is from dene-man - dweller in a forested valley - may have started in a specific place in Somerset… So I think it’s likely that it’s a topographic name with 2 (or more) roots.
@willsmanonename.bsky.socialShort answer - no! I was doing a Denman #OneNameStudy & still run the Denman DNA Project. Somerset Denmans are genetically distinct from those in Sussex or Notts. Sussex & Notts also appear distinct at this early stage; I believe a Notts Denman travelled south to Sussex so descendants may be there

@willsmanonename.bsky.socialBath, Somerset. My aunt Anne (nee Denman) stands on the approximate location of the grave of her namesake Anne Turner (nee Denman). She lost 3 children in one week & endured much abuse at the hands of her husband Job Turner. Anne fought back & the couple separated.
