New Sprawlcast! Calgary city hall is trying to catch up on pedestrian safety while the Alberta government is threatening to rip out bike lanes. We look at all of this—and more.
I'm a PHEV car driver, an infrequent cyclist, a transit rider (bus & Ctrain), and a regular pedestrian. I'm a 6 ft tall Black woman who dresses like a tropical drink - highly visible. I'm an authoritative walker - I know how to cross a busy street, confidently. I risk my life walking in Calgary.🚶🏾♀️
Indeed! We did a whole Sprawlcast looking disappearance of that bridge (and what it says about infrastructure on west side of Deerfoot vs east)
A decade ago, Calgary city council approved a new pedestrian strategy that aimed to dramatically reduce carnage on city streets by 2025. Instead the opposite happened. We dig into why—and what comes next. #yyccc

Become a member! You will not be disappointed! Here’s what the Alberta Magazine Awards judges had to say: “Its stories are thoroughly researched, expertly written, and thoughtfully edited, providing readers with meaningful context and insightful journalism on the issues affecting Calgary today.”
Thanks Rose!
Thanks Margy!!
Happy for Jeremy and all associated with The Sprawl! In addition to being a much needed journalistic voice in Calgary he is a former classmate of mine and I think he does what he does out of caring for the world as a whole. And we need those types right now. Support The Sprawl if you can.
The Sprawl is now 9! 🎂 And on Thursday night we were named Alberta Magazine of the Year. To celebrate we are aiming to get 90 new members by the end of Sept!
Today we published a tribute to beloved Calgary historian Harry Sanders. “He always had a story about the people that made the place.”
Thanks for sharing the story and the broadcast info! 📻
Glad you enjoyed it Brett!
Reflections on a new season for The Sprawl in a time of AI slop and scattered attention.
Good news! The Sprawl is nominated for 7 Alberta Magazine Awards. For our municipal election coverage, our tree canopy coverage (ha!) and our Pop-Up Press. www.sprawlcalgary.com/alberta-maga...
