I disagree. To do meta and/or deconstruct a genre, you have to love it, or else it fails. There should be no sacred cows. Just cos _you_ don’t like the jokes, doesn’t make it bad. See Lake Miasma or Madoka (brilliant deconstruction of magical girl anime) as examples.

Respectfully, I disagree. I love meta humor/commentary. You have to love a genre to be able to properly deconstruct it. There should be no sacred cows. Look at Lake Miasma as the perfect example. Now, there are ones that suck, but that’s more an indictment on quality than the sub-genre.
