It’s a lesson they should have learned in 1787.

With the NYC premiere of Ava’s 14th next week, there’s a lot of talk about inspiring people to continue the fight to ensure civil rights for all Americans. What I hope we can do is have a conversation about why it’s still a fight at all.

That sounds right to me.

Getting elected doesn’t mean you stop answering to the people who sent you there. Kristi Burke is running for Congress in TN 01 to fight for accountability and remember exactly who she works for. She’s a Courage Candidate, and she’s on the ballot this November.

Spending all day dealing with this kind of garbage: “Being a historian is patriotic work." When I wanted to do patriotic work, at 17, I joined the army. I went to grad school to be a historian. Where does this come from? Don’t its adherents see the harm? Or is it worse, just a slogan?

This framing is absurd. The prescription is the standard move: solve a power problem with one institution, the Court, by shifting that power to another, Congress, somehow standing in miraculously for “the people.” This merry-go-round never ends.

A bold idea: lean into Andrew Jackson. Don’t talk about ways to return power to the people, just erode Marbury to resurrect the concept of coordinate branches of government when it comes to interpreting the Constitution. Liberal nationalists wouldn’t see change if it smacked them in the face.

How did they proceed to get rid of the president? They passed a law they knew he’d violate. He violated it. They impeached him for it. I love those guys.
