Thanks to everyone for joining us on #SpookySunday - a fun, fascinating and fearful time was had by all! I'm looking forward to more splendid spookdome next week.
Newcastle's keep has several ghosts, but perhaps the most unusual is that of a Spanish cavalier who walks across the Great Hall and is only visible from the waist down. Other spooks include a mischievous flower girl who haunts the stairs and Roman soldiers. #SpookySunday #folklore #gothic #wierd
“She rose ... with an indescribable grand melancholy of indifference and detachment ... Dishonoured and tragic, she was all before me.”

Lovely.
The Occult Files of Dr. Spektor was a comic book from the early 1970s. Each issue featured Dr. Spektor investigating a different occult occurrence which was sometimes a ghostly event but it usually involved something like a mummy, werewolf or another corporeal creature he could punch. #SpookySunday

This is interesting because the 1911 anthology I have, which includes this story, is 'Uncanny Tales'.
Wow!
Love Bruce Pennington's cover art. I never really got into sci-fi books but my dad had a big collection of paperbacks and the Pennington covers in particular (not that I knew that) were definitely the ones that tempted me the most.
Well, these two Penguins have never been in front of my eyes before despite much rummaging on bookstalls over the years. Extraordinary. The Ghost Nun is especially suitable for #SpookySunday
And talking of #Vikings (as I was, below), here is a ghostly one, accompanied by a procession of apparitions of many different peoples, in an illustration by Stanley Wood for Guy Boothby's novel 'The Marriage Of Esther'.

In the 1920s a man and woman met at the top of the Eiffel Tower, he to propose, she to break up. When she rejected him, they say she either was pushed over the edge or slipped. Now, tourists occasionally hear a spectral scream as they relive this rejection eternally #SpookySunday
