This piece started with a visit to PJ’s headquarters in 2009, right after Obama’s inauguration. Wrote a shorter article then. Expanded it with more reporting in 2017 for a special issue. Rewrote a bit for today’s first online post. Gotta settle in for the long haul is the moral here I guess
