We know our community is concerned about reports of increased ICE presence in LA. Federal agents seen in DTLA on Oct. 8, were part of an operation by LAPD to make arrests tied to alleged high-level narcotics sales. According to the LAPD, it was not immigration enforcement. Here's what we know.
“People have died in these immigration prisons. The 65,000+ community members are loved & are not just numbers. These individuals have familie — they have fathers, mothers, daughters, sons. We will fight in the courts & the streets to stop this cruelty,” - Angelica Salas, CHIRLA Executive Director
Upon arriving at the LA metropolitan detention center this afternoon, we harness our power and love for our immigrant neighbors and families to voice our message loud and clear: the suffering our community is enduring in immigration detention must end now! ✊🏽🦋🕯️
🕯️We’re marching to stand in solidarity with those taken from their families. 🕯️We’re marching to remember those lives lost in detention. 🕯️Immigrants deserve justice and dignity!
This morning, CHIRLA stood alongside our faith community on the final day of the 8-day, 96.5-mile pilgrimage from Adelanto Detention Center to the Detention Center in LA. ✊🏽 We came together with our neighbors to call attention to the cruel conditions inside detention centers in CA & the country. 🕊️
The pilgrimage arrived in LA. ✊🏽
United by our shared love for justice, dignity, and humanity for our neighbors, we call for liberation for all the immigrant communities who were kidnapped and taken from their families. 🦋❤️🩹
