The reporting of the NYT on this has been grotesquely skewed by their administration informants and the Times' editorial bigotry, but the students at the Harvard Crimson cover the ground professionally.

This is a great idea! We haven’t won anything yet so let’s start purging allies with bullshit purity tests. Good times.

Well I understand the scam where the person pretends to be a publicist who will get me interviews and reviews etc. But this woman was asking me to discuss new projects--and even if I had shared a million-dollar idea with her, the million dollars doesn't come along right away.

I got a letter from an editor at a publisher explaining that DEMOCRACY REBORN is a work of genius. Theeditor was a real person. I reached out to her through its website to ask whether it was she. Unsurprising answer: no. I am not clear on what the payoff for scammers is. Anybody know?

We have just witnessed the 21st century equivalent of the Hitler-Stalin pact.

I have long suspected that it is the reason for some congressional votes.

I grew up in Virginia during the 50s and 60s. A number of prominent families had holdings in Rhodesia and ensured that a great deal of pro Ian Smith propaganda appeared in the press and even in some schools.

See above. The key player is the CLERK, who is designated by the current speaker, jot tge Speaker elect. Speaker election and swearing in are red herrings.

@garrettepps.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 12:26 AM

The scenario tdoes not require the Speaker to be re-elected; it requires 1) appointment of a new Clerk before the old House adjourns; 2) a Clerk willing to jimmy the roll by skipping Democrats. Once a Republican majority has been seated, Johnson would be re-elected Speaker. /1

We should not ignore the role of the Supreme Court in the ordeal in Tennessee. The Court of Appeals had ordered a stay; the majority voided it with no explanation.“As flies to wanton boys are we to the gods; They kill us for their sport"—KING LEAR

A reminder that if not for the Supreme Court in US v. MORRISON, Jane Doe would have had access to the federal courts for a civil rights action. The Court said that rape is a local matter no matter how great the impact on commerce.
