Ideas are powerful. That's why your right to free expression is fundamental to our democracy. #BannedBooksWeek📚
Humor, mockery, and political satire have been important ways for people to express themselves, challenge those in power, and participate in democracy since our nation’s founding. The First Amendment protects that right for all of us.
The First Amendment protects every person's right to joke, mock, insult, and criticize public officials – no matter who holds power or who's making the jokes. Read more about this win for free speech ⤵️
VICTORY: When the government blocked our client @catsonacouch.bsky.social from J.D. Vance’s official events because of her online jokes, we sued.
Now, we have the government on the record loud and clear: It will not exclude people from public events simply for making fun of public officials online.
Happy Banned Books Week 📚 Join us in Rockport on Tuesday with Jennifer Finney Boylan for a conversation about book bans and the importance of the freedom to read, write, and debate ideas.

NEW: A federal court will allow our case defending two human rights advocates to proceed. We're challenging a Trump executive order that bans Americans from speaking with the ICC. The executive order remains blocked, and our clients can continue their important work as our case proceeds.
We're suing President Trump over yet another executive order targeting birthright citizenship. We already won this fight at the Supreme Court in June – and this new order will meet the same fate.
A nor’easter may be blowing through, but we’re used to defending civil liberties in the face of stiff headwinds. Rain or shine, come see us at the Common Ground Country Fair through Sunday! Stop by to meet our team, hear about our latest projects, get involved, and grab some fun new merch.
Election Day is just six weeks away! But you can already request a mail-in/absentee ballot, register to vote online, make a plan, and help your friends.
