Why don't people caught burning in the samsara's flames of eternal love not simply release all their attachments? Are they stupid?

A new paper from my PhD work! Attention reshapes how the cortex represents meaning. Does the same thing happen in the cerebellum?

The yellow heart emoji ⟨💛⟩ is mistakenly displayed as a pink "hairy heart" ⟨a pink heart symbol with marks representing short hair.⟩ in Google's Android 4.4 mobile operating system (released 2013) because Google's emoji art team misinterpreted the dots in Unicode's black-and-white reference images ⟨Heart symbol with dots.⟩ as being hair stubble. In reality, the dotted pattern is simply used as a colorless way to represent the color yellow (in accordance with heraldic hatching).

just to be absolutely clear: Terrence Tao is not only not an anti-AI person, but has been one of the most prominent advocates for formal methods via the Lean proof language and autoformalization with AI

I strongly encourage people to read the slides: terrytao.wordpress.com/2026/10/10/m...

Whenever I face a major life decision, I imagine a parallel universe where I chose the other path and died in a fiery car crash. That way I know I definitely made the right choice

In September, OpenAI said 10,000 #AI agents had partially "solved" the Navier–Stokes problem, one of maths' great open questions. #univienna mathematicians Nathanaël Berestycki & Vera Fischer: the field will never be the same, but maths is far more than producing proofs at speed. 🧮

I don't think it's a vision, it's just the way things are now. It's true that lots of people are trying to get AI to prove things for them, but most of my mathematician friends mainly use it to learn stuff. Of course things could change.

Math isn't being devastated. A bunch of medium hard to quite hard problems that humans have made up and worked on extensively are getting finished off by AI. AI is also a great way for mathematicians to learn more math. The future is unpredictable, but I wouldn't declare devastation just yet.

@benhayden.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 9:08 AM

What if people just work less hard because the AI is doing the work for them and so it’s a net increase in utility?
