Yo de niño
when you think it’s home time but there’s still 40 minutes to go
One weird trick to solve all your AI problems: Make the creators of AI legally liable for foreseeable problems their product causes, just like every other damn product in the world.
Happy birthday!!
birthday blog post: i am so sick about writing “hidden indie gems”
mimidoshima.neocities.org/main/posts/2...
i’m using my birthday immunity to talk about why i am done boosting popular indie games. i want to focus my energies onto unmarketable games.
So, just in case anyone didn't know, I have a Patreon where I'm currently translating the revised and expanded edition of The Wings of Rean, Tomino's 2000+ page saga of sex and violence and (eventually) giant bug mecha. I'm almost a quarter of the way done. It's a lot of work. Like, a whole lot.
I need all of the "AI kills productivity" studies first filtered through what I call the "does this remotely involve SharePoint" lens because if anything involved touches a SharePoint library it's basically cursed by the anti-productivity gods
my new idea for what to call rpgs like dragon quest and final fantasy that may or may not actually be japanese is "quest fantasy". this is a reference to the rpgs dragon quest and final fantasy, and a subtle nod to the fact that many of these games indulge the fantasy of going on a quest
Ken St. Andre, creator of Tunnels & Trolls, has announced on Facebook that he is terminally ill. He has perhaps a few months to live. Ken is an unsung titan of the gaming industry, and Tunnels & Trolls was a shot across the bow of the then-nascent D&D juggernaut. T&T was the first game to look at

a shadowy cabal WAS taking over our industry! it was billionaires, and now all you get is AI slop IP generators and exploitable remakes and rereleases. nobody who cares has a job anymore. colleagues and friends privately judged me as hysterical at the time. i hope they enjoy this world now
the stupid thing was: the consumer games press DID have unethical marketing mouthpiece relationships with the industry. the e3 / spike tv / actiblizz / doritogate conglomerate and the payola-dominated masculine corporate culture had a stranglehold on what got made and how it could be discussed --
RIP to a level design legend. always wanted to write about Duke 3D level "The Abyss" one of these days - one of my favorite game levels of all time. also he's the subject of some of my favorite exhausted/pissed off looking game dev photos

finally starting a little thread of my Busan International Film Festival coverage. first up, a review of the competition film IBUKU ("my mother"), for @variety.com: variety.com/2026/film/re...
Incredible things are happening at Karl Marx's house in Trier.
Okay, Doomheads, you really need to check this out. Doom as a place of architectural dread. There is a LONG build-up to the very first fight as you explore what I can only describe as a cozy public plaza as designed by von neumann machines. Alleyways to nowhere and well-lit unstreets.
