It was a good day. Thoroughly recommend a thermal imaging monocular. I saw this fox and 46 hares on one field this evening while watching the aurora 🙂

The caput femoris ball of a fossil mammoth femur picked from the Waveney valley gravels today. Almost certainly Mammuthus meridionalis originating in the Crag, a near-shore marine deposit of Plio-Pleistocene age. Picture a dead animal floating out to sea. Hard bits remain, rolled around by tides.
A firebug fiesta!
Out in Breckland today, the 'ghost pond' team @carlsayer.bsky.social @hburningham.bsky.social excavating a backfilled Ice Age doline pit, had to contend with sediments full of smelly burnt wood, barbed wire and mutilated tree trunks, before reaching the sought-after organic-rich sediment layers.
