I've just signed the Palantir Pledge, joining politicians across the world in committing not to support any public contracts with this US tech giant. The next big battle here is to use the upcoming break clause to kick Palantir out of our NHS!

Great news! This shows that all the campaigning for a Windfall Tax on the banks is having an impact.

The banks have made billions from higher interest rates while millions pay the price.

Let's keep up the pressure. We can win this!

Red campaign graphic with the headline “TAX BANK SUPER-PROFITS AT THE BUDGET”.

Below, white text reads: “Our campaigning has clearly got the right-wing media worried. Let’s keep up the pressure ahead of the Budget!”

Underneath is a tilted screenshot of a Daily Telegraph article by Jeremy Warner, headlined: “Don’t punish the City with a bank tax, Mr Healey”.

My solidarity with everyone joining the protests this week to kick Palantir out of our NHS. As I said in Parliament recently: from serious concerns over its handling of patient data to its human rights record, this US tech giant should have no role in our NHS.

90 years ago today, 30,000 people gathered on Holbeck Moor in Leeds to stop British fascist leader Oswald Mosley and his Blackshirts holding a rally. My grandad was there to help stop the fascists. I was so proud to speak at the unveiling of the plaque commemorating that historic day.

A plaque explaining:

The Battle of Holbeck Moor

On 27 September 1936, 30,000 people assembled to prevent the leader of the British Union of Fascists, Sir Oswald Mosley, and his Blackshirts, from holding a rally.'They shall not pass.'

I fully back this call from Labour members. Palantir’s co-founder claimed “the NHS makes people sick”. Serious concerns surround its human rights record. Yet it's running the NHS' data platform. The Government must use the break clause to kick out Palantir.

I'll be presenting this petition in Parliament for a tax on bank super-profits ahead of the coming Budget.

Almost 10,000 people have already signed.

It could raise up to ÂŁ15 BILLION a year to help tackle the cost-of-living crisis.

There is a lot of misinformation about the UK social security spending.

The chart below shows Total UK social security spending as a percentage of GDP, 2013/14 to 2030/31 (spending & forecast)

55% goes to pensioners, the remainder covers everything else.

Our privatised water system is a disgrace. In Parliament this week, I called for water to be brought back into public ownership. A massive thank you to the 200,000 people who secured this debate by signing a petition - including hundreds from East Leeds who added their name.

Our democracy should not be for sale. That’s why I backed the recent Amendment calling for a cap on political donations. That needs to happen. And quickly.

Banks are raking in billions in super-profits from the higher interest rates that are hammering households.

Private water companies rip off the public, fill our rivers with sewage and pocket billions that should be spent for the public good. Great to join campaigners in Parliament demanding that water is brought back into public ownership!

The decision of the Israeli government to sanction me today will not intimidate me into silence. I will continue to do what is right, speak out in defence of international law and stand up for justice for the Palestinian people.

@richardburgon.bsky.socialSep 8, 2026, 3:25 PM

Today’s sanctions on Israel over its illegal occupation of Palestine are an incredibly welcome step towards meeting our moral and legal obligations. They are also a testament to the campaigning of so many people across the country who rightly demand justice for Palestine.

The extreme dangers posed by climate change are clearer than ever. The oil and gas companies fuelling the climate crisis should not be allowed to pollute our politics. This week in Parliament, I discussed my Amendment to ban all oil and gas donations to political parties.

@richardburgon.bsky.socialSep 2, 2026, 4:35 PM

With yet more Israeli violence in the West Bank, there’s growing speculation the Government will ban trade with Israel’s illegal settlements. That'd be a welcome step. In Parliament I called for action on the West Bank to also include a ban on the sale of arms that could be used there.

@richardburgon.bsky.socialSep 1, 2026, 2:31 PM

My Amendment to ban oil & gas companies from donating to political parties is up for debate in Parliament this week. The immense dangers of climate breakdown are clearer than ever. The fossil fuel companies driving the climate crisis should not be allowed to fund our politics.

@richardburgon.bsky.socialAug 28, 2026, 1:47 PM

I've tabled a new cross-party parliamentary motion calling for a moratorium on new AI data centres. AI data centres consume vast amounts of energy and water, put pressure on local infrastructure and make our climate targets harder to meet. We cannot allow their unchecked expansion.

@richardburgon.bsky.socialAug 14, 2026, 2:38 PM

Climate breakdown will shape our country for decades to come.

Bold climate action can show whose side Labour is on - by protecting ordinary people, putting fairness at the heart of the changes we need and making the biggest polluters pay.
