#NowWatching Oasis of the Zombies
For Day Eleven of Hooptober 2026, I was tasked with finding the lowest-rated film from the 1980s that I have not seen. From the reviews on Letterboxd, this one looks pretty bad.

I’m a twenty-five-year-old Southerner who loves movies. Drive-In/Iron Mutant. #FFB. Cat dad of two: Sammy and Shadow. ADHD and Asperger's.
My friends and I went to a new flea market in the area, and I got a small selection of DVDs for a total of $8. Except for Tron and Life of Brian, most of these are ones I haven’t seen.
It’s bad schlock. It has some decent atmosphere, but the effects are cheap, the score is bland, the plot is incredibly thin, and the characters and acting are bad, too. But the biggest sin is that it’s very boring.
Oh, for sure. It’s up there as being one of the worst zombie movies ever made.

Happy 30th anniversary to The Long Kiss Goodnight, which follows an amnesiac schoolteacher who sets out to recover her identity with the help of a private detective. The line "Yes, it was very exciting. Tomorrow we go to the zoo." was reused from The Last Boy Scout.
#NowWatching The Pit
For Day Ten of Hooptober 2026, I was tasked with finding one bad kid movie. This also marked off two other categories: an inanimate object being alive film and one movie from 1981 that I haven't seen.
Happy 29th anniversary to Boogie Nights, which follows a nightclub dishwasher who becomes a popular star of adult films. Paul Thomas Anderson adapted actual dialogue from real adult movies into the fake adult movies, so people couldn't say the dialogue sounded fake.
#NowWatching Fiend
For Day Nine of Hooptober 2026, I'm checking out another low-budget horror film made by Don Dohler. Like The Alien Factor, I've been wanting to see this after @zaranyzerak.bsky.social showed it in his 2008 DVD collection overview.
Happy heavenly birthday to John Lennon, who was most well-known as the founder, co-lead vocalist, and rhythm guitarist of the Beatles. In addition to his solo work, he became a symbol of the anti‑war movement and helped redefine what a rock musician could be.
And it’s such an iconic part of his character.
#NowWatching The Watcher in the Woods
For Day Eight of Hooptober 2026, I’m checking out one of the few horror movies made by Disney. I've wanted to watch this ever since I bought the Anchor Bay DVD at 2nd & Charles a few months ago.
Happy 34th anniversary to Reservoir Dogs, which revolves around diamond thieves whose heist of a jewelry store goes terribly wrong. Mr. Blonde's Cadillac Coupe de Ville belonged to Michael Madsen because the budget wasn't big enough to rent a car.
#NowWatching Devil Dog: The Hound of Hell
For Day Seven of Hooptober 2026, I was tasked with finding a movie that has 'devil' in the title. All I know about it is that it features Kim Richards, the sister of Kyle Richards from John Carpenter’s Halloween.
Happy 43rd anniversary to Never Say Never Again, based on Ian Fleming’s 1961 novel Thunderball. Rowan Atkinson of Mr. Bean fame has a brief role as Nigel Small-Fawcett. Many years later, he would play a parody of James Bond in the Johnny English films.
Before this, the only Don Dohler film I saw was Nightbeast, mainly because I learned from James Rolfe that J.J Abrams got his start with it. The Alien Factor is definitely the more fun of the two. In the coming days, I'll be watching Fiend.
#NowWatching The Alien Factor
For Day Six of Hooptober 2026, I'm checking out a low-budget sci-fi horror film made by Don Dohler, the director of Nightbeast. I've been wanting to see this after @zaranyzerak.bsky.social showed it in his 2008 DVD collection overview.
Happy 4th anniversary to Terrifier 2, the second installment in the Terrifier franchise. The Little Pale Girl was going to be more of an Italian horror/Edgar Allan Poe-inspired girl, but was redesigned as a small-girl version of Art following the success of Terrifier.
#NowWatching Meatcleaver Massacre
For Day Five of Hooptober 2026, I was tasked with finding a movie that has 'massacre' in the title. Knowing that Ed Wood was involved with this, it’s going to be some real campy stuff.
Happy 65th anniversary to Breakfast at Tiffany's, based on Truman Capote’s novella of the same name. For the scene where Paul and Holly attempt to have a Cracker Jack ring engraved at Tiffany's, the crew reportedly went through two hundred boxes before finding one with a ring.
#NowWatching Blacula
For Day Four of Hooptober 2026, I was tasked with finding a movie that was directed by an African American. The last time I saw it was back in 2023.
