Or you could also color the lineart to the light you bring to the piece or even painting above the character itself with a clipped layer above Painting is fun, but requires as you mentioned yourself, a little more consciousness about the overall piece So have fun and enjoy the process :3

Honestly, the best advice I could give is: Do ehay is more comfortable to you! Do what's more convenient and how do you want it to be in the moment you're drawing. Seeing your style, it fits both, if you think the lineart is being an issue, maybe try practicing and looking at light/shade blockage+
