One of my favorite finds from last week. This combines elements of soul, psych, pop and jazz into a smooth and delicious sonic cocktail.

OMG I love this album. Cool as a cucumber seasoned with joy. "Midnight Glow" is a slow-funk epic chased by a crisp palette-cleanser from "I Can Depend on You" that finishes with a hint of Beach Boys. sonsofsevilla.bandcamp.com/album/it-cou...

I just uploaded another obscure music documentary to IA. "Come Day, Go Day, God Send Sunday", is a really beautiful look into the Black sacred music & church life in Rappahannock co in the 1970s. Some remarkable footage, including rare recordings of Black accordion music of the early 20 century.

First test of our blazing fast new wifi is uploading docs I've been collecting. First up is this short doc "Ossian" about the son of American artists Hetty and Angus MacLise, Ossian, who became a Buddhist monk in Nepal, one of the first western tulku. Has some great music in it too.

I saw All of a Sudden over the weekend and it is a masterpiece that made me (and many other people) cry in the theater.

Flipped back a few pages in a work notebook to find “it’s giving idiots too much confidence in their lack of ability.” Strongly worded email to follow.

You might find some psychedelic Americana; finely written protest folk; smooth pan-genre vibe-soul; a fusion of cumbia and trip hop; a cosmic sound bath; and some thoughts on manners for the next version of society.

Hopefully this week’s newsletter can restore your faith in music right now. It’s mostly bleak in the usual places, but flourishing on the fringes, perhaps.

Nice! It’s a great festival. I’m planning on Possible Love tomorrow evening. Columbia Film Fest is happening in Chatham this week too, so also trying to catch a few things there.

Music is the native language of the human species. Making music with other people is a pleasure on par with sex. I feel sorry for anyone so disconnected from their own nervous system and their fellow humans that they fail to recognize this.
