Not really. I think the personification of a tool is a cognitive UX hack that works on some people and not on others. Some folks really got into Clippy. More will get into this. But these are just tools in the end and there will be a spectrum of expertise and skill-based outcomes.

Sure. But RPGmaker and Unity asset store have been selling the same line forever. "Making games is EASY!" Same audience. Same message. Admittedly a difference in the volume that the message is conveyed. 😅

The result is a lot of what I see in high school or year 1 intro to game courses. Yes, visuals may be superficially higher quality, but mechanics are trivially generic genre tropes. Familiar stuff! Fundamentally, these are newbie projects by newbie game devs. What were you expecting? Magic?

A dev pointed me at r/aigamedev. Hmm. These are bad games, but it is interesting to me *why* they are bad. We've got a lot of folks who 'want to make a game' * Gamers * Amateurs And very few who have practiced 'how to make a good game'

Worst: When you get someone who only sees the suck. Not how it might look after you fix that part. Next worst: I know some people can fix this, but I don't believe you can & won't give you the chance. Best: When someone says, oh that suck? Min 3 years of work and no one has actually solved it.

All the best game design advice can be restated as if it were said by Bill & Ted.

One thing that still surprises me about game development? How iteration is so wildly effective at turning garbage into gold. "This sucks" -> Fix things that suck -> "Doesn't suck?! Whoa!"
