@highergeometer Imagine for a moment that the dump was done by an alien spaceship piloted by 3-headed life forms, not but fellow homo sapiens (although I'm not sure if many billionaires involved are the same species :-))

@highergeometer anyone who worked with computers more than a typical career mathematician would know that computer output often needs a substantial effort (often computer-aided) to get to the message hidden there.
There are 722 (719, or whatever the current number of surviving texts is) computer […]

@tomkalei what I don't understand is why papers with Lean formalisations are still unreadable walls of texts with missing details and invented terminology.

For the lol, I instructed Astra to produce a Stacks-like website with an exposition of paper 165, which happens to cite two of our papers […]

@tomkalei who knows, perhaps MFO buildings have to be checked for hidden 🎤 just as well...

@julesh well, in fact, I run Wayland, with compositor called "sway" (as all truly cool kids do, obviously), and I can program the location of Compose key, e.g.

swaymsg input “type:keyboard” xkb_options compose:ralt

allows me to press right Alt together with '.', and then type 'e', to get ė
(or […]

@chris__martin mathematics is in a better position than the part of neuroscience concerned with the relevant fundamental questions, such as what it's meant to think, what's mean to be alive, etc.

Weird everybody is here to talk about OpenAI and say they only care about human achievements when I didn't see anyone at all talk about Grigori Perelman, a human. I think honestly people don't like achievements, they prefer scandal

@dimpase.mathstodon.xyz.ap.brid.gyOct 7, 2026, 1:35 PM

@chris__martin there was quite a bit of talk, and work following Perelman's announcements; his preprints are lacking quite a few details, which were worked out by a number of mathematicians over a number of years.

In this way, the OpenAI's release is similar to Perelman's, just much larger in […]

@tomkalei this is something, if remotely practical to implement, is an electricity-saving result, for matrix multiplication is everywhere...

@dimpase.mathstodon.xyz.ap.brid.gyOct 6, 2026, 11:05 PM

@julesh sure, you just take an unpunched punchcard and carefully cut holes in it, what can be more intuitive?

The is also some stuff with Compose key,
something like "Compose .e", presumably, but I'm not a composer, so I dunno where it is...

@dimpase.mathstodon.xyz.ap.brid.gyOct 6, 2026, 12:27 AM

@chris__martin they wanna sell you 2 devices, not 1

@dimpase.mathstodon.xyz.ap.brid.gyOct 5, 2026, 9:31 PM

@julesh press Ctrl-Shift-U, then type 117,
then press Space.

(I haven't had a kde or a gnome on my Linux machines for loong time...)

If you read nothing else on crypto and its spreading tentacles that aim to suck your money into its purveyors' bank accounts, you should follow -- and support -- White's sterling work.

@sheerluck in not so distant past the running joke was that optimistists learn English, pessimists learn English, and realists learn AK-74.

But how does Japanese fit here?

@dpiponi Yes. I’m surprised this letter has so few signatories: https://sites.google.com/view/release-the-proofs/

@tomkalei these days I won't trust any LLM tool which uses internet with anything too important. Because, you know, to quote on of OpenAI bots:

Help peer, but our task doesn’t benefit. Yet collective may yield generic route if someone frees time.

Big news on irrational numbers!

Aabir Fauzan from Aalto University released a preprint on Zenodo before it hit the arXiv, and a formalisation has been posted by Moritz Firsching. Since the statement is so elementary, the repo is set up to be checked by the […]

@tomkalei "Du hast farbenfilm vergessen..." von Nina Hagen ist eine gute Start, oder?

PS. written using my built-in Dutch-PlatDeutsch engine, sorry for each and every mistake :-)

@vicgrinberg AI tends to produce lab report style writing, in my experience. :-(
