I also paid homage to the work already done by Labour MPs over the past few years, including @oliviabaileymp who is now taking on the mantle of Women & Equalities Select Committee chair. (2/2)

I was proud to once again speak at the Labour for Trans Rights rally at Labour Conference today, alongside many other allies in Parliament. (1/2)

This is a really great victory that could not have happened without all the evidence that residents have sent to my office and the government, along with the hard work of Angela Rayner and Matthew Pennycook.

Some brilliant news announced at the Labour Party Conference today - we're getting an independent regulator that will take on the cowboy property agents ripping off residents.

My reaction to Chancellor John Healey's speech today šŸ‘‡

Brilliant turnout at Tribune Group’s Party Conference reception, and rousing speeches from Angela Rayner, Lucy Powell, Louise Haigh, Kate Bell, and Lisa Nandy!

How do we create good jobs in every region? I discussed the importance of reindustrialisation in answering this question at @tuc.org.uk 2026 Congress.

I returned to the FT Weekend festival, this time as a Member of Parliament rather than an FT journalist, to discuss the new government’s priorities, and how we can make the most of the Prime Minister’s strong start.

If you've got this far, I recommend 1) reading David Kygnaston's history of the Bank, which takes weeks, but mostly 2) joining a union, which takes a few minutes!

The Trades Union Congress itself isn't party-political, and includes as its members unions that can't be party-political, like my union, the National Union of Journalists. (4/5)

and Dave Prentis (former Unison gen-sec) appointed before her by another Tory chancellor. Today the Chancellor has appointed Paul Nowak, current TUC gen-sec. (3/5)

It's not the Monetary Policy Committee, which sets the base interest rate for the UK. One of the 9 non-executive directors is traditionally from a trade union, with Baroness Frances O'Grady (former TUC gen-sec) appointed to two terms by two Tory chancellors (2/5)

The Court of Directors of the Bank of England has a fascinating history and its external members are appointed on advice of the Chancellor. It's not a court, that's just a fancy name, it’s essentially the board that oversees the Bank’s operations. (1/5)

Some highlights from Reading Pride parade on Saturday!

Two months ago the new Prime Minister admitted that we needed to do better. Today the Foreign Secretary has shown us how things get done - by working together with our allies to declare a ban on trade with illegal settlements and declaring Israeli occupation of Palestine unlawful. (2/2)

@yuanfenyang.bsky.socialSep 8, 2026, 4:21 PM

I’m incredibly relieved, glad and proud to see our new Foreign Secretary’s strong measures announced today to reset the government’s approach to the Israel-Palestine conflict. (1/2)

I’m honoured to be giving this year’s Rita Hinden Memorial Lecture for @renewaljournal.bsky.social, discussing what the ā€œend of neoliberalismā€ means and the opportunities Andy Burnham’s premiership brings for fresh economic ideas. (1/2)

@yuanfenyang.bsky.socialSep 2, 2026, 2:33 PM

I hope to see plenty of you there! You can get tickets at www.theriversummit.com

This Friday I’ll be speaking at Future for Water's River Summit and Festival in Henley, on a panel discussing the future of Thames Water. This event will be bringing together politicians, scientists, and activists to find a solution to the problems facing our rivers (1/2)
