What is the impact of the Ukraine war on US gasoline and diesel prices? None.

When Trump decides to lift sanctions and buy Russian fuel, he is not just funding Russian attacks on Ukraine but its ongoing attacks on all of America’s European treaty allies. He is quite literally giving aid and comfort to the enemy of NATO and the United States.

It's already illegal. Congress banned it near-unanimously in 2022. That law allows the ban to be lifted only if Russia withdraws from Ukraine. He's simply breaking the law that's already on the books.

Republican US Rep Brian Fitzgerald tweets that he will introduce a bill to block purchases of Russian oil. Don Bacon (R-Neb) tweets that he will co-sponsor. Obviously this won’t happen during campaigning recess (and Trump could veto anyway) but interesting push-back on Trump.

Delighted by this FT ā€žBest Books of the Weekā€œ review of Germany Rearmed: ā€žFix is a pessimist. She belongs to a generation of Germans unwilling to trust that their country-and Europe-will behave itself once unmoored from the US-led security order. She offers solutions. It is worth hearing her out.ā€œ

If you were looking for a way to polarize Americans' views abt the military, undermine its influence internationally & drive out service members appalled by its civilian leadership's barbarity, this is certainly a good way to do that.

It would really be great if folks not affiliated with the Trump Administration could stop using "Department of War." The Department of Defense is a statutory creation, and the name is statutorily given--the administration cannot unilaterally change it.

The U.S. military no doubt can, and perhaps even should, cut back its senior management—but Pete Hegseth’s approach is damaging the military and the public’s trust in it, Kori Schake argues.

Not really. The Army's promotion system was just seniority: no merit, no up or out. Marshall replaced it with 2 reviews: vetting for vigor and judgment by a panel of retireds he selected; testing in Louisiana Maneuver for ability to innovate with the new tech (tanks). 11 of 42 GOs commanding passed.
