Add to that how agent task management/switching conflicts with monotropism and executive dysfunction and you might have a group with a higher vulnerability towards chatbot-induced mental health episodes

I've been kind of wondering if one of the reasons why LLMs are hitting software devs so hard is because of our anecdotal but well-known skew towards neurodivergence:

Junior staff in publishing are forever dealing with horrors, but a horror that's theoretically aimed at destroying their jobs is additionally gross.

I will not only be relieved but truly *ecstatic* to be wrong, if more and better studies soon start showing that AI actually improves learning and cognitive motivation. But so far they all show the opposite, and that is consistent with the evidence that I and other educators are seeing on the ground

I'm not sure what these cabins were used for, but they seem to have been abandoned for a while.

I’ve had a few fruitless conversations with UK civil society over the years along the lines of: you know the far right is outplaying and out-strategising and out-organising you in every way, while you’re wanking around with a Mastodon install and calling it impactful advocacy b/c it’s decentralised

Your regular reminder that my daughter Alice’s death wasn’t counted in Appleby’s report, despite her meeting all the criteria. And when I emailed the Tavistock adult GIC to inform them they could take Alice off the waitlist, because she’d died by suicide, they never replied. It’s a disgrace.

the latest anthropic cry abt "cruelty" & "abuse" of ai is truly stupid. i beg journalists to stop parroting amodei

we wrote why dehumanisation of ai is impossible & 6+ yrs later, everything in this paper holds

Robot Rights? Let’s Talk about Human Welfare Instead dl.acm.org/doi/pdf/10.1...

Yet we disagree robots should be treated as ‘slaves’. In defense
of her position, Bryson states: “But surely dehumanization is only
wrong when it’s applied to someone who really is human?” Our
position would be that ‘dehumanization’ is not so much wrong
for robots, it is impossible. One cannot dehumanize something
that wasn’t human to begin with. If one uses the term slave, one
implicitly assumes that the being one so names is the kind of being
can be ‘dehumanized’. One has already implicitly ‘humanized’ the
robot, before subsequently enslaving it. One should obviously not
enslave someone first taken to be human.

Have I ever told you about my favourite spice? Hockey Pulver is pure salt licorice/salmiak bliss. You can sprinkle it on whatever you like, of course, but I mostly use it on ice cream and in smoothies. It’s good on popcorn too.

In other words, it is the job of scientists to devise experiments that can test their claims, to always be cautious abt what they are claiming, and to critically evaluate the claims of other scientists. By these well-established standards, no serious science is happening behind Anthropic's claims.

We are going to have a harder time prying the reasoning of AI out of people , than the technology. They are leaning on the idea that humanity will anthropomorphize ( and forgive) things that remind them of hegemonic power Than people who challenge it

In the vein of "public libraries could never be created today," a pitch for a calculator would get you thrown out of the boardroom. What do you mean, it just maths? Where are the ads supposed to go? How does it send usage telemetry back if it doesn't even have wifi? There isn't even a leaderboard.

Not to take away from celebrating Carson, but she's a "former professor" here in large part because the university shut down her department and cancelled its classes. What pride does the institution claim now—years later—when austerity is forcing other scholars out? What does that 'pride' do?
