My latest history lesson!
And guess what date King George III issued it? October 7, 1763. Today was October 7. 263 years later, I was teaching it without even realizing it was the anniversary. Sometimes history has perfect timing.
Today I was teaching my students about the Proclamation of 1763, issued by King George III after the Seven Years’ War. It prohibited American colonists from settling on or purchasing lands west of the Appalachian Mountains in an effort to prevent costly conflicts with Indigenous peoples.
people could hear it and move on? Just as every man in that Cornell frat did nothing to stop the horrors inflicted on the human being in their frat. 9/
tape wasn’t only, “How could people hear a man talk about women that way and still vote for him?” Maybe the bigger question was: Why did that way of talking about women sound familiar enough that millions of 8/
Social media can then amplify influencers and communities that explicitly demean women or treat relationships as contests of male dominance. Maybe the question we should have been asking after the Access Hollywood 7/
see women’s bodies as things to possess, consume, trade, judge, or abuse. Those lessons don’t suddenly begin in college. Boys can encounter pornography and highly sexualized content online long before they have the emotional maturity to understand intimacy, consent, or healthy relationships. 6/
These are radically different circumstances, and allegations in a lawsuit are not established facts. But the language reflects something we still have not adequately confronted: a culture that can teach boys and men to 5/
Not a woman. Not a fellow student. Not a human being with agency over her own body. A body being offered up for other men to use. And that is the connection I can’t stop thinking about. “Grab ’em by the pussy.” “Free pussy upstairs.” 4/

on it wasn’t as far removed from the way women are viewed in our society as we would like to believe. And I thought about that again when I read the allegations coming out of Cornell. A former Cornell student has filed a lawsuit alleging that she was 2/
People wondered why the “grab ’em by the pussy” tape wasn’t enough to destroy Donald Trump’s political career. There are obviously many reasons Trump won in 2016. But I keep coming back to one reason that tape wasn’t politically disqualifying: what we heard 1/

It’s voting season and midterms are less than 7 weeks away! I partnered with the @brennancenter.org to clear up two myths about voting that have been floating around.
"My hope stems not from passive wishing but from actively fighting for progress, along with so many others compelled to act by anxiety over the affordability, democracy and AI crises.” Exactly right, @rweingarten.bsky.social

Mr President
You are dead wrong on this.. Safety is not an afterthought , it is the path forward to AI not overtaking the wirkd. It’s not about China, it’s about all of us!! www.politico.com/news/2026/09...
I can’t go. Yes. Hearing that is exactly why.
But I believe that what we can control is our collective humanity. And the way we attain it & strengthen it is by getting off our technology & engaging in conversations with other humans. Turning our orbit around.
Wilco’s “Jesus, Etc.” came into my life in the period after 9/11, and I will always associate it with that time. There was something about hearing “tall buildings shake” in a world where I had just watched the unthinkable happen that stayed with me.
Maybe life has always been chaos. To believe that anything is permanent is a futile mission.
