Happy SBR/SBS/Suppressor day to those of you who celebrate
Ian has dedicated their life to helping and advocating for others. Let’s get together and help them out if you can.
Always happy to help. You’ve been there for me in ways you don’t even know.
I feel terrible asking this, but my debit card got stolen and I don’t currently have the funds in my account to cover some upcoming payments while I sort the dispute out with the bank. If anyone could help spot me, I would really appreciate that! V: @Ian-Coldwater CA: $iancoldwater PP: @coldwater
Got my professor bars today. This is meaningful. Not everyone who can *do* can *teach*. This is the recognition that I can do both
My love, you are so beautiful 😘😘😘
As to the health effects of various types of labor, maybe look at some of the studies around what sitting at a desk, staring at a screen for 8-12 hours a day with overhead fluorescent lighting and hydrating yourself with energy drinks and Diet Coke does to your physical and mental health.
Watching a bunch of supposedly left-leaning tech workers toe the capitalist line that their labor of typing on keyboards is somehow superior to blue collar work is disappointing but not surprising. Why isn’t is surprising? Because I see how y’all treat service staff and workers at conferences.
The reason people accuse of elitism is because this is an elitist stance. The idea that instead of shunning blue collar labor because it doesn’t pay enough or is hard on the body one could be advocating for better pay, working conditions, and healthcare for blue collar workers doesn’t even register.
I’d also add that both my parents and my sister went to college, even got graduate degrees, and I, with my high school diploma, make more than all them them ever did combined and adjusted for inflation. The notion that you *need* college or your fate is meaningless toil is, itself, rooted in elitism
I know what damage it does and I wasn’t sad at all when my oldest dropped out of college and became an electrician’s apprentice. The fact that so many of us make a lot of money to type on keyboards and people doing essential work get paid so little is a failure of the system, not their career choice
I started my career in construction and also was a chef. I knew and still know a lot of 50- and 60- year old guys in trades. They’re master bricklayers, master electricians, foremen, etc. It’s definitely not zero and you can thank unions for their ability to progress based on their experience.
It’s def giving “I don’t want to work at the ‘putting kids into a woodchipper factory! They’re awful! That’s why I work at the ‘crush kids under a steamroller’ factory instead!”
We don’t have any of that there but we did have our first < 90° day since May, so that’s something 😊
