Young people gave Jane hope. She knew they were the leaders of the future, and they were leading the way forward already. We feel the same way. But we also know that young people – young girls, especially – face real challenges. Photos: Hugo van Lawick / Stephano Lihedule / Bridget Hoffman

This long weekend, we hope you can spend some time with your loved ones. Hold them close. Spend as much time at the table as you can. Be fully there. From our sanctuary for rescued animals to communities across Canada, here's to the ones who make every place feel like home. Photo: Fernando Turmo

What commitment did Jane make when she recorded this message? Watch the video to find out – and then, if you can, make the same commitment. We can help you do that, too. Go to JaneGoodall.ca/Take-Action to see how you can do your bit. All of us, together, can make an incredible difference.

These masks help protect the apes from human-borne illness, because even the common cold can make them sick – and worse. The team also tends to stay at least seven metres away from the chimpanzees. This distance helps reduce stress and prevents accidental exposure to human diseases. Learn more:

We don't want them to be patient zero! Over the past six decades, we've been able to learn lots about carefully observing chimpanzees and protecting primates. As you can see here, the team wears face masks to help keep the chimpanzees safe. Photos: Fernando Turmo / Stephano Lihedule

Roots & Shoots groups across Canada can now apply and get up to $1,000 to support the projects they have created that benefit animals, people, and the environment – like the ones you see here.

To learn more about the fund, and to find out how you can apply, go to JaneGoodall.ca/APEFund.

Good news: Due to popular demand, we've extended the deadline for 2026-2027 A.P.E. Fund applications! The new deadline is Tuesday, October 13th – that's just one week away from today, so don't wait too long. Photos: Jeff Orlowski / Teena Koppaithara / Dayna Noel Zimmerman

This past weekend, more than 830 people across Canada took part in the Jane Goodall Hike for Hope – to honour the legend herself and to support the work that her Institute does. We know how hard all of you worked to raise funds – and we're happy to share that you have raised nearly $96,000.

Joined fellow conservationists for the Hike for Hope at Lake Nkuruba Nature Reserve!

An inspiring day of nature, teamwork, and commitment to protecting our forests and wildlife. Every step was for a greener future.
