So delightful to see this photo on our Slack channel of cargo bikes parked at the Portland Public School board rally. So many families with their amazing rides. Bikes are better for democracy! Photo by Maximillian Battison

Cars have gradually become bigger & deadlier to people, especially to the most vulnerable people who walk & bike. But because the change has been gradual (+ makes a lot of money for the car-gas industry) we accept this change. Our anger has instead been turned to the new thing on the street: ebikes

Children deserve to experience age-appropriate autonomy and learn how to navigate spaces on their own. Not just to help them become functional adults but also to help their childhoods flourish. If I could afford a tiny human, this is why I would raise them in NYC

a guy at the dog park tried to chat me up by complaining about how hard it is to drive willamette now and I was like well I feel less likely to get killed biking to work on it. this shut him up. i added that I still might get killed biking to work but at least odds are lower now and he walked away

I also drove it last week in my car for the first time since the speed bumps went in and ๐Ÿคฉ what a game changer! it used to be that going the speed limit while adjacent to unprotected bike commuters got you tailgated or honked at. now cars are all speed limited by infrastructure

what makes the new N Willamette PCEF-protected bike route so dreamy, especially when youโ€™re biking east, is how continuous it is. 3.5 miles of smooth, concrete protected, wide and dedicated bikeway with only one intersection to stop at

There's a 40% jump in walk fatalities on Halloween compared to control days (10x increase in risk for little kids).

Block parties are a great idea
+ Halloween is an excellent night to avoid driving.

8600+ Oregonians took the Governor's survey on what they want to see in a future transportationย package.

What a surprise! People want to fix the damn roads, expand transit service and build safer streets.

Oregonians are not clamoring for ODOT to spend billions on freeway expansions. #orleg #orpol

Seattleites are most concerned about traffic safety because we all experience it regularly: narrowly missing getting hit while walking in a crosswalk, seeing people using center turn lanes as their personal speedway, etc. Most people also know someone who has died or been seriously injured:

Street changes can be confusing, like how to drive slowly or where to put out trash cans.

BikeLoud folks are seeing a more positive change- families are riding bikes w small children since the buffers were added to Willamette. It's exciting! (Say thanks your Council!)

Iโ€™m participating in Week Without Driving. We need to fight like hell to get the transit funding our communities deserve. Fellow electeds - please join me in riding the bus this week so you can see first hand what itโ€™s like when we fail to fully invest in transit. See you on the 12?
