what I love about Samir’s work is it has a full emotional palette. not only does its frequent horror not prevent it from also being romantic, sad, lonely, contemplative, beautiful, angry, and funny, the horror enhances all these feelings & allows them to be expressed in unsanitized, interesting ways

i have zero lost love for Dog People™️ and i've long recognized the misogyny that drives hatred for cats & how seeing one's experience reflected in animals is impactful. but that doesn't mean we have to do - whatever this is

it's a take that drives me insane. it's like candy for people stuck in Feminism 101 who can't conceptualize animals as anything but flat metaphors. would be cool if we could discuss how society's expectations for and commonplace abuse of cats & dogs are different facets of the same evil, but oh well

spoiler: large dogs get abandoned, abused, or killed. little dogs get abused, ignored, and laughed at

i wish people would stop repeating the weird-ass idea that cats require consent but dogs don't, especially to make a point about misogyny or gender whatever. dogs do require consent. the people who deny that just don't care, notice, or think about what happens to dogs that assert boundaries
