Chat is it good when an Ambassadorial nominee writes "Stop papering all these things. It’s really dangerous ... if you write an email or a text about, l’m gonna kill you cause I love you but you’re so out of control" to the man who paid her $300,000 to help resolve his tax issues with the IRS?

That same month, Guilfoyle sent a congratulatory note to Long after his confirmation as IRS commissioner. She attached a letter Deters had written outlining his tax dispute: “Don Jr. and I are very close with Eric Deters and his wife and I know he sent you a letter,” she wrote. “I am hoping I know how busy you are that you could give some time and attention to it.”

Two days later, Deters sent her a photo of a printed memo addressed to her: “I have paid you $300,000 over the years,” he wrote. “As of this memo, I have not received one favor. I am not naive or a sucker. I need results.”

In response, she told Deters to “stop papering all these things. It’s really dangerous.”

“Just call me on signal,” she wrote.

As for Long, she would call him the next day, she assured Deters. “I wrote him a very nice message. Told him how important it was that you’re close to me and to don.”

“Also very privately,” she continued, “if you write an email or a text about, l’m gonna kill you cause I love you but you’re so out of control.”

That afternoon she texted an update: Long had written her back.

“BOOM,” she added.

A week later, on July 3, she placed two missed calls to Deters’ phone, and sent him instructions on how to wire money to an American Express account.

“Your needing $100,000 urgent unfortunately is not going to work,” he wrote. “I can’t do this without getting a divorce.”

“I’ve been calling you for over a week straight,” she replied. “You could be here meeting with Billy Long.”

Long is now the U.S. ambassador to Iceland. Embassy officials there referred reporters to a State Department media office that didn’t respond to a request for comment.

I don’t think a 21X increase in the cost to get a tanker out of the Persian Gulf with lower total exports than before the war is an achievement. And I think it’s odd that so much of the press has been covering it as if we should see this as positive, with “Better Than You Think”-style “explainers.”

next comes austerity for social programs to close the deficit

A one-time tax of a small portion of the wealth of 200 individuals who can easily afford it that can pay for health care for hundreds of thousands of their fellow citizens; or, allow an entire state’s health care system lapse into crisis in exchange for keeping more billions in the bank accounts of billionaires.

Cory Booker — who is being floated as a 2028 contender, and who just the other day did not deny the possibility of wanting to become leader of the Senate Democrats — promotes the book of Brett McGurk, a chief architect of the US-backed Israeli genocide of Palestine:

Cory Booker tweet:
@brett_mcgurk
is one of our nation’s great experts on the Middle East and has spent decades working at the highest levels of diplomacy through some of the region’s most consequential moments.

I’m really looking forward to reading Brink and learning from his firsthand account of the extraordinary efforts to free the hostages, and confront the extraordinary challenges of the region.

People won't voluntarily give up their Kid-Crusher 5000s unless we make driving them considerably more costly and inconvenient, which is precisely what we should do.

"Those claims mask a voluntary system riddled with loopholes that has made scant progress toward stamping out one of the oil industry’s dirtiest practices. The industry helped shape the initiative, which leaves companies to police themselves."

Think tanks will soon start releasing non-peer-reviewed modeling of how the permitting bill might affect pollution, if they haven't already. Most will secretly have lots of ideology-driven thumbs on scales. One big way to tip the scales is by ignoring pollution associated with oil and gas exports.

This is all correct - I’d emphasize ongoing low transit of other Gulf energy outputs, especially LNG and diesel. More critical than crude. Diversion of strategic naval assets from Asia, threat of other horizontal escalation. And all essentially for nothing.

Thank you for your courage and for reminding us about this murder & cold blooded dismemberment of a courageous journalist. I can never forget Pompeo’s off the cuff dismissal of Jamal’s fate and Kushner’s divulging of intelligence about MBS enemies in exchange for deal$; all of them put to death!
