I might be misremembering, but I have a feeling @danielsugarman.bsky.social asked for and received from Parliament a list of the editions of the various holy books just after the 2024 GE. Might have been someone else though!
Mothin Ali has never been an MP.
As far as I know no-one ever has (I did ask the clerks and the Journal Office, but there's no formal record in Parliament of who swears on what to be 100% sure), as it's not a holy book per se.
I swore my oath on a Tanakh, and while Parliament has got a pretty wide range of available options (I'd love to know why the Zohar is one of them?) you can also request any other holy book, bring your own, or indeed not swear an oath on anything at all and make an affirmation instead. All counts π€·ββοΈ
Wonderful news to have woken up to this morning! Congratulations Sagal πΉβ¨
Hard to see how it can be argued that the Green Party's "Zionism is Racism" policy that passed at their conference isn't antisemitic in its intent or effect when among the things that are now considered racist acts you can be disciplined for is going to synagogue.
Great to be out in Orford today alongside the ward councillors speaking to residents and picking up casework we can support with.
If you need help or have something you'd like to discuss, email [email protected] or contact your councillors here: warrington.gov.uk/councillors π¬
Well, it wasn't our year. But, taking the positives (through gritted teeth haha), a sell-out Super League Grand Final and an underdog win is a great advert for rugby league. We go again π€πΊ
I managed to get back into town in time to see the massive reception at the Halliwell Jones too including Batida Rio sending him off for the last few checkpoints before the finish line at tonight's Super League Grand Final.
A whopping Β£1.3m raised so far: donate.giveasyoulive.com/fundraising/...
Thank you Sir Kevin! π It seemed like all of Burtonwood came out this morning to cheer on Kevin Sinfield as he takes on the last leg of his '7 in 7: The Grand Finale' ultramarathon challenge for the MND Association! You can text "KEVIN10" to 70143 to donate Β£10
I wrote for @thenewworldmag.bsky.social on the sheer significance of Andy Burnham putting compassion for others, empathy and care at the forefront of his political offering
And that's a wrap on Labour Party Conference 2026. Hope again, indeed! Thank you Liverpool πΉβ€οΈ

We should come down like a ton of bricks on those who are violent against women β whatever their background.
Yet today, you only ever hear women's safety mentioned by right-wing politicians when they are discussing immigration.
It's weaponisation.
Now the Wire!!! πΊππ Warrington Wolves are going to the Grand Final!
Today, the government has announced it is bringing in statutory bereavement leave for pre-24 week pregnancy loss from next April. This will make a huge difference to women and their partners who experience the pain of losing a pregnancy - and finally recognise it as the bereavement that it is.
Thank you! I very much intend to πͺ
Finished a day of media about the Β£23m announcement today on specialist rape courts, which I'm specifically credited by the Government in securing having waived my own right to anonymity to push for the changes. Shout out to the Warrington Guardian comments section for always keeping me humble βοΈ
Thank you - there's been lots of happy tears today π₯°
Funnily enough, I'm aware it was a manifesto commitment, this was a point I raised in the speech above if you'd care to listen to it. The point is that it wasn't being done. Now it is funded, agreed, and happening and that's thanks to both our new PM and Lord Chancellor - not to their predecessors.
