'It is easy to describe a transport problem as a lack of routes, high fares or unreliable services. Hearing directly from people affected by these issues showed me that they... can influence someone’s independence & sense of belonging' Ruby, Bevan Foundation www.bevanfoundation.org/views/work-e...

For years, campaigners and local communities have been asking a simple question:

Is the Lower Thames Crossing, a destructive £11 billion Smart Motorway, actually worth it?

Is this destructive £11 billion Smart Motorway actually worth it?

It's time for the DfT to end the deception and release the Lower Thames Crossing's Outline Business Case.

The public have a right to know how our money is spent.

What are they going to privatise next? The roads we drive on? YES, and the government pumps public money into it too

After privatising the Lower Thames Crossing, the government is also privatising the Dartford Crossings

Demand the National Audit Office investigate this: vist.ly/5hdn6

On #WorldCarFreeDay, let's celebrate a small recent @transportaction.bsky.social win 🥳🥳

The definition of "sustainable transport" in the Government's National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) no longer includes electric vehicles.

This is good news as we need fewer cars, not just newer cars!

On #WorldCarFreeDay, we're excited to share that we've helped England take an important step forward on its car-free ambition—but there's still a way to go 👇🏾

@transportaction.bsky.socialSep 22, 2026, 8:06 AM

Here's what we're asking for:

✅ Cancel poor value road schemes
✅ Invest in public transport and active travel
✅ Prioritise road safety
✅ Make buses and rail more affordable for all

#WorldCarFreeDay

So many people are dependent on cars because they have no viable alternatives.

Freedom is people being able to CHOOSE their transport based on their needs, not FORCED to drive because nothing else exists.

This #WorldCarFreeDay, we’re calling for better choices. 🧵

The Friends of Carrington Moss and other local community groups proposed an alternative solution to the eastern part of the Carrington Relief Road to Trafford in March 2021.

Our RIS3 consultation response called for: ❌Cancellation of the A38 and A46 ✂️Further cuts targeted at capital spending which increases traffic and congestion 🪾Funding for safety and the environment (especially outfalls) to be ringfenced, and active travel funding increased

The Department for Transport is quietly reviewing its road investment strategy (RIS3).

Funding to stop toxic outfalls pouring road runoff into sensitive watercourses is now under threat.

National Highways has just confirmed 250 locations where they will stop toxic outfalls pouring road runoff into sensitive watercourses. Your pressure worked! The number of locations went 👆🏽from 182 to 250 with funding in place in RIS3. But, that funding is now under threat 🧵

@transportaction.bsky.socialSep 11, 2026, 8:50 AM

The DfT is looking to cut the RIS3 budget by £428 million. This would be done by:

1) Cancelling two road schemes (the A46 Newark Bypass and A38 Derby Junctions) - saving £315m.
2) Making £113m of cuts in other capital funding

Have your say 👇🏼
