Ukraine blows up Russian data centres and immediately and mysteriously online talk about Germany’s Far Right AfD virtually disappears. Stop Putin you stop the Far Right.

I am so energized after a regional history conference packed with former students, working and prospering in the field. Said goodnight to one at the closing reception.

"Goodnight, Dr. Cebula," he answered.

"You can call me Larry. You graduated years ago."

"I cannot," he laughed.

Yeah, he's been learning and learning well in real time. It's been very impressive to watch.

He'll keep doing shitty things that will be albatrosses around the necks of the 2028 Republican candidates.

And feral bees had their own westward movement in advance of the white settlers who'd introduced them. Hence the Indian name for them "white man's flies."

Dear Administrators: You laid off half the support staff and students can't get registered for classes they need, or access financial aid, or make appointments at the writing center. But you want faculty to fix our poor student retention rates? #AcademicSky

Types of history books ranked: 1. Books written by historians who can write like journalists or novelists. 2. It is wild. He quadruples down where he can even as his supporters fall away and his opponents cease to fear him. Dead man walking, but with nukes.

To avoid morning meetings I blocked out my calendar with "Saving Kittens from Burning Buildings" every day from 8 to 10:15 a.m. My provost responded with a 7 a.m. meeting request. "This is violence!* I told him. #AcademicSky

I came here for this meme.

Here in Spokane our mayoral elections are in off years and allegedly nonpartisan. Money interests recruited a local newscaster to run in 2019 as a stealth Republican and she won on a campaign of demonizing the homeless. I thought it would become a national model in blue cities but it hasn't really.

Josh has explained before why micropayments never took off, and it all made sense, but it's also a damn shame.

Former Special Counsel Jack Smith: I will not be silenced by threats of prosecution from the President. The rule of law will endure. Public servants have remained faithful to their oaths despite extraordinary pressure. While fear may be contagious, courage is as well.

Free book idea in a footnote in Laura McGrath's "Middlemen: Literary Agents and the Making of American Fiction": how the mid-20th century rise of the Xerox machine enabled the rise of simultaneous submissions and changed book publishing (among other shifts in communication technology).
