We are here in Foley Square demanding the immediate release of Oscar Belgal, and ICE out of New York and abolished. Cruelty cannot be our national ethos.

This afternoon, ICE agents shot someone on Marble Hill Avenue, right here in Manhattan. My heart is with the person who was shot and their family, and with a neighborhood that has been living in fear. An agency built on cruelty and thuggery has no place in New York City or anywhere.

I love it when a treasured spot returns! I’m a little late to the party, but was glad to have a welcome-back lunch this week at the Carnegie Deli.

I pray for comfort for the bereaved and for a future of safety and peace for all.

As I look back on this photograph, I am struck by the rays of sunlight breaking through the trees in the distance. It is hard, so much of the time, to see light through the darkness. We must keep trying. I will keep trying.

In that time, I have tried to mark the tragedy by mourning with my community on each anniversary of 10/7, as I will do today; by giving voice, as best as I can, to the concerns and aspirations of the Jewish community; and by taking action to combat antisemitic violence and hate in all of its forms.

Not a day has gone by in the last three years that I have not thought about the lives lost to Hamas’s murderous rampage, the horrors faced by their hostages, the terror that the attacks struck into the heart of Israel, and the rise in antisemitism that Jews worldwide have experienced.

This was Kfar Aza as I witnessed it, twelve days after the pogroms of October 7, 2023, the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust.

An incredible morning announcing funding for the P.S. 145 library, a collaboration between the school and Ansche Chesed synagogue. Now we’re filling the shelves with even more stories for students to fall in love with. Thank you to the community members and volunteers who made this happen!

I also stand with the Governor in calling to close the intoxication loophole. I’m proud to co-sponsor this legislation in the Assembly, and the legislature should pass it as one of our very first acts when we return to session.

Restoring that trust requires a thorough investigation and charging decisions the public can have faith in. @governor.ny.gov made the right call in referring this case to our outstanding Attorney General, @newyorkstateag.bsky.social Tish James, and I’m grateful for their leadership.

Jane Doe did an incredibly brave thing by coming forward. Cornell University and District Attorney Van Houten failed to act, and in doing so they failed her. They also broke the public’s trust in institutions meant to protect us.

What an honor to write about the legacy of Jerry Nadler for @cityandstateny.bsky.social 20th anniversary. @nadler.house.gov is a principled, fearless leader, and his influence will carry on long after he leaves Congress, not just because of the laws he has passed but the politics he has practiced.

I was so glad to spend the day speaking to neighbors and voters with two of our great democratic clubs, the Hell’s Kitchen Democrats and the Lexington Democrats. It’s a beautiful day in NY-12!

In the absence of any coherent strategy by the State Education Department to meaningfully improve K-12 education, it is hard to see this as anything other than a means to paper over that absence.

The way forward is robust regulation of AI domestically, paired with effective diplomatic engagement driving toward strong international agreements.

On the 25th anniversary of the deadly terror attacks of September 11, 2001, let us recommit to our vow to #NeverForget.

Happy first day of school, New York City! To all the kids and parents — have a great year. And to the teachers and staff making it all run — thank you.
