Here's an appreciation I wrote about him. designobserver.com/balthazar-ko... One of the interesting factors in his career is how close he was to the architects (esp Saarinen), you could totally do a love letter to that era of Detroit design

Oh he is the best! YES to whatever project.

My extended family always texts me about any national news from Brooklyn and usually it is miles away … but not when it is the game store that was rude to Kelly Clarkson!

Bodoni is “my” typeface (me and all the other modernists who need a serif)

No, when they released the work back to me as PDFs they said it could not be reposted. It's still possible the site could be archived and preserved by one of the orgs trying to save vintage local media, so I hope that happens

The buy-centennial thing is so funny because (as Katy noted last night) the quantity of merch seems minimal now AND if I could find any of it for a reasonable price I would buy it to wear for my book tour

The Stolen Neighbors Quilt, made of 12,500 fabric squares and unveiled at the State Capitol’s rotunda, represents the lives of the estimated 11,000 people deported in Minnesota between the beginning of President Trump’s second term and the end of Operation Metro Surge.

There is a small but growing community of Bicentennial-heads and there is so much to discover (I have a chapter in my forthcoming book)

@langealexandra.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 4:16 PM

Also, since I am recommending things today in the midst of my b*tching: Went to a book talk for Katy Siegel and Elise Armani's "What Was America? Art, Culture, and Politics in the Bicentennial Era" and it was so good! Quilts! Logos! Protests! Preservation! bookshop.org/p/books/what...

I was describing to some younger critics how many realities I have had to retrain myself for ... and I just don't know if I have another one in me (vertical video)

MALL COUNTRY, a mall doc whose progress I've been following since the beginning, will premiere on Nov 12 @docnycfest.bsky.social

It's about that guy who (kinda accidentally) bought the Johnstown Galleria and it's great www.docnyc.net/film/mall-co...
