Oooooooo!!!!

@rachel-aaron.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 4:31 PM

I always keep everything. I have 20 billion cut files hahaha

@rachel-aaron.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 2:23 PM

I am obviously upset about this, but I mostly feel relief. I KNEW it wasn't good, and now I get to fix it! Rewriting is like shaking out a leg that's fallen dead asleep. It hurts at first, but you just know it's going to feel so much better later.

Casually dumping 30k words to completely restart the book from scratch, as one does.

Sometimes you have to write it wrong to learn how to write it right. #writing

You guys, I have never felt more seen. #writing youtu.be/YqPPyGDfiDY?...

This sounds like a question for @travisbach.bsky.social! Novels and games work very differently, mostly because you can go back and edit a novel if you make a mistake. Games are always live, which makes them much harder IMO. But Trav has been DMing forever and is AMAZING (I might be a little baised)

Thanks for the question and for reading! I hope that info helps!

For example, Heartstrikers is about challenging toxic might-makes-right thinking, while Eli is about what is the worth of a person? There was a lot more going on, obviously, but these were the cores around which everything else revolved and the reason the books stayed so consistent.

My trick (which I still use) is to make sure I always know what the books are about, and then always write to that. If you know your theme, your stories and characters will always be consistent even if the plot has to change wildly.

@rachel-aaron.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 6:58 PM

Thank you! So glad you enjoyed them! I always had the ending in mind for both, but both series changed wildly in the telling. I had to stop and remap a lot of what happened to take into account new ideas and all the times I changed my mind.

working on it right now! So glad you enjoyed the story!

OMG Rachel get off the internet and write.

And the more good books readers read, the more they *want* to read. It's a virtuous cycle!!

@rachel-aaron.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 8:45 PM

This is so true. The second Mana Runners book took me 6 months. The first readers finished it and had their reviews up 18 hours after launch. There will always be more readers than authors. This is not a scarcity environment!

nobody finishes a book and concludes “that was great; now I shall never read another one.” other writers are your teammates and coworkers, not your competition.

@rachel-aaron.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 6:12 PM

thank you!! That's high praise indeed

@rachel-aaron.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 5:09 PM

aww, thanks!! Glad you enjoyed the story!

I feel like I was not adequately warned about the brain fog that happens in your mid-40s as a lady. I haven't been attacked by any other monsters from the Menopause Bestiary so far, but Brain Fog and Greater Fatigue are kicking my butt. T__T
