1/2 The Kansas City Star cut the reporter who covered the police. So who's watching KCPD now? KC pays for its police, but a board of the governor's picks runs them. Not the city council. Not us. Since 2022, the state constitution forces KC to spend at least 25% of its general budget on police.

So THIS Saturday the 10th, Sierra Club is leading us on a march to Ameren’s front door. We’re bringing our kids, our signs, some puppets, and even a piñata of the Labadie coal plant. We’ll say it loud enough that they can’t pretend they didn’t hear. The many will defeat the money.

Every time the electric bill goes up, something else has to wait. The groceries. The daycare invoice. The car payment. But why is it going up? Ameren wants to keep building for data centers, and we’re the ones who pay for it.

2/2 Then Jefferson City lawmakers shorted the school funding formula by $190 million this year. That took $3 million from Ritenour. Our immigrant neighbors don't strain our schools. They help keep them full.

1/2 Nearby districts are losing students. Ritenour's enrollment is holding steady, and immigrant families are a big reason why. The district met them halfway: teachers trained for kids new to English, a health center, a food pantry. Teachers kept showing up for students, even in detention.

2/2 Renters organized for this. KC Tenants pushed the Tenant Bill of Rights through in 2019, & Kansas Citians marched for the right to a lawyer in 2021. Now the city puts $2.6M a year behind it. Facing eviction? Ask about right to counsel at your first hearing. Send this to someone behind on rent.

1/2 Your landlord brings a lawyer to eviction court. In Kansas City, now you can too. In 2018, 6.4% of KC tenants had a lawyer. After right to counsel started in 2022, it's 20%, and the share of cases ending in eviction fell from 60.7% to 50.9%.

1/3 Glendy and Nixon were our neighbors in Overland. Glendy organized with Fuerza. She was one of ours. ICE picked Nixon up in April 2025, and he was deported to Guatemala. Glendy, afraid of being deported without her three daughters, left to join him.
