Great stuff from the Telegraph.

A 29-year-old woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said the high levels of unemployment were “noticeable” in the area.
“When you go into Somali town, as we call it, you just see people outside in the cafes,” she said, gesturing down the road, before adding: “It annoys me, they are loitering around and doing nothing.”
Addressing her own career path, the 29-year-old said: “I can’t work at the moment because of my mental health. Of course I want to work, I went to uni and studied English Literature for two years. I want to be a writer.”

Line of Duty is watchable but not something I’d tend to put my phone down to watch

Chernobyl was absolutely outstanding. Fair point

“Forks” is as good as any episode of any TV show ever.

I’m a bit ADHD but will try

@mpaulmcnamara.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 7:53 PM

I mean finishing in 2005 kind of excludes it from consideration. I kind of gave up because a bunch of characters you fundamentally dislike can work in say the gangster milieu of the Sopranos, less so in a funeral home

S3 wasn’t great but it bounced back.

@mpaulmcnamara.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 7:50 PM

It’s a Sin was great - was thinking more of the sort of ongoing multi-season shows

@mpaulmcnamara.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 7:49 PM

Oh thanks - saw it recommended at the time but never got round to it

@mpaulmcnamara.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 7:44 PM

Oh a ton more shows I like, but real claim to be Great?

What’s the best US TV show of the 20s? Huge choice Succession, The Bear, The Pitt, Widow’s Bay to name a few. Here: Blue Lights and *maybe* Slow Horses and that’s it

Catching up with Blue Lights and it's nice to see a BBC show where asylum seekers are good guys and the fascists trying to harm them are bad guys. Makes a difference from other shows where it's the other way round like, say, the news.

It’s about time City fans were called out as well. All this nonsense about not punishing the fans … just look at the away end

@mpaulmcnamara.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 3:48 PM

Any genuine football fan wants City humiliated on and off the pitch.

@mpaulmcnamara.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 3:43 PM

„Nobody wants to see that” I beg to differ.

@mpaulmcnamara.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 3:40 PM

I thought it was way earlier myself, (and the explanation is AI)

@mpaulmcnamara.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 3:39 PM

Guessing reception is something City are going to have to get used to, I’d guess everywhere but maybe Stamford Bridge

Origins of the Tradition
• The Chant: Fans sang a version of the novelty song
"Ask Old Brown for Tea" (including the provocative lyric, "if he don't come we'll tickle his bum with a lump of celery"), waving and eventually tossing the vegetable among themselves.
• Escalation: What started as a harmless or humorous terrace chant evolved into fans smuggling whole stalks of celery into stadiums and throwing them onto the playing surface. L YouTube • Mr Foot... +3
The Ban at Stamford Bridge
• The 2007 Crackdown: The practice was officially outlawed by Chelsea F.C. and the authorities following the 2007 League Cup final against Arsenal, when the match had to be temporarily halted because players-specifically Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas-were pelted with celery from the stands.
• Penalties: The club issued a formal statement declaring that bringing or throwing celery at Stamford Bridge is a criminal offense. Consequences include:
• Refused entry or confiscation of the vegetable at security checkpoints.
• Arrest, fines, and potential criminal records for throwing objects onto the pitch.
