Arms up if you love octopuses! πŸ™πŸ™‹ #WorldOctopusDay

Deep-sea organisms use a variety of ways to swim. Most cephalopods, like this gliding Benthoctopus sp., have the ability to move by jet propulsion. This one was observed pulsing its arms and jetting gracefully through the water.

Especially on the subaqua branches of the bankside Willows, & sheet pilings in their shade, spectacular growths of Freshwater Sponges (Spongillidae). Here in the lower River Little Ouse, where the flow is slow, it needs these finger like growths to πŸ“ˆ surface area for filter feeding. #SpongeThursday

Some glass sponges may be the oldest animals on Earth. Individuals of Monorhaphis chuni are estimated at over 11,000 years old, and they build a single skeletal spike up to 3m long, the largest natural glass structure any animal makes. πŸ§ͺ #SpongeThursday #HowToBuildAGiant #marinelife

The brain coral emerging at low tide from the water in this photo is what we termed an β€˜urban coral.’ That is a coral that has naturally recruited onto human-made shorelines, seawalls, and artificial reefs πŸͺΈ

People see "spider" and think scary. I see a tiny gentleman who just wants to clean his face in peace. Give jumping spiders a chance... they're smaller than your fear, and bigger than you'd think on personality πŸ₯Ή #macro #jumpingspider

A neighborly sort of coral πŸͺΈπŸ’• The mushroom soft coral (Heteropolypus ritteri) is one of the most common animals we see in the depths off the central coast of California. They are abundant on the jagged walls of Monterey Canyon and the rocky slopes of local seamounts.
