Friends who write plays, what is your preferred software/program for that mission? Final Draft, my usual weapon of choice, has stageplay options, but they don't really make the work look like the play scripts I'm familiar with as I'm writing. And with my brain that means writing will not happen. 😅

I am in agony.

@gabrielurbina.comOct 19, 2026, 9:22 PM

Yeah, I don't think so either!

My instinct is entirely in the opposite direction - this sign implicitly hangs at every coffeeshop that doesn't have signage to the contrary.

And rob him of the chance to proselytize the Radio Bob Special to the barista, the other customers, and anyone within earshot of his voice? He would never!

Ahhh, but what happens if you get there after placing a mobile order and then every single table is already taken? I should have specified in the question that wanting to sit down at the table is one of the conditions of the thought experiments. Silly character limit. 😂

But isn't there an understanding that all of the establishment's facilities are there for the use of the people that have patronized it? And so doesn't it follow that you have to patronize it before you can use any of them? 🤔

A panel from Rich Burlew's Order of the Stick.

Tarquin and Elan are talking. They say the following dialogue:

Tarquin (looking solemn): "Mysterious circumstances."

Elan (shaking his fist at the heavens in anguish) Not another one! When will they find a cure?!?

The phrase they keep using, “suicidal empathy,” means they believe those who help vulnerable people are actually dangerous. “Suicidal empathy” means maintaining vulnerable people is like failing to prune a plant: only by excising the sick parts can the whole plant thrive.

Does it make sense to deport a man who overstayed a visa but otherwise has no criminal record when his deportation means shutting down a food pantry that serves meals to 7,000-8,000 needy people a month? Does choosing not to exercise discretion in his case make America greater?

Aleksander Nijal is the founder and president of the Open Hand Association Food Pantry on Lydig Avenue in the Bronx. He was detained by ICE on Monday when he attended a court hearing.
"It was the saddest thing ever. What he did for this community for the past 14 years. He made sure that people in need had food on their tables for their families. Every day, every afternoon, regardless of what time it was,'
" said Saimir
Burgaj, Chairman of the Open Hand pantry.
The pantry serves anywhere between 7,000 and 8,000 people each month.

(Yes, I’ve asked something like this in the past, but I’m fascinated by how opinions wax and wane on this issue.) (Me posting about it is almost always caused by having a surprisingly vitriolic argument about it irl. And that keeps happening, so I keep posting about it. 😅)

You get to a coffee shop. Look around. You notice there are eight people in line to order, but only three available tables. There is no discernible way to know if the people in line are getting orders to go or to stay. Is it acceptable to put your stuff down at a table before you buy something?

Re the last repost, one of the things that has stuck from my time in the behavioural science snake oil mines was an experiment where if people planned a week of movie viewing they would pick a mix of genres, some 'highbrow' etc but if they picked day to day it was all the same stuff

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

Next week, on THE HARBINGERS... You have that in your countenance which I would fain call master: Authority. Episode 20: "Sweet Dreams" Out October 22, 2026

Over an image of dark ocean waves, the following text:

It’s a woman. A few years older than Adam, though with something fey and ageless to her qualities. Perhaps it’s simply that she’s the sort of person who has carried herself with the authority of adulthood since the time they were nine or so.

She’s leaning against the column, a half-spent Sobranie in her hand. For all we know she was there the whole time. Or she might have materialized out of thin air. Both seem equally likely.

I think this is a really important thing what finally got me to complete delete my twitter account and remove it from my phone was when enough of the people I enjoyed following had left the platform as long as people still get enough value out of who they can find there, they’ll stay

LIan Coldwater 🧊🚫@lookitup.babyOct 13, 2026, 4:25 PM

I left X *because* I had a large following. People told me I was the reason they were staying on there, and I didn’t want to be responsible for 100k+ people sticking around for abuse, CSAM, and Nazis. Simple as that

OBSESSED.

Obsessed with the look. Obsessed with the aesthetics. Obsessed with the confidence. Obsessed with the swagger. Obsessed with Emma Mackey.

Give Greta everything she wants and more. Let her do whatever she wants. Let her do everything she wants.
