See twisting #solar plasma and magnetic fields whirling into space in yesterday's immense filament explosion. ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Nothing's coming our way from it ... but there's a huge #sunspot facing Earth, capable of throwing out big flares. Will it?

๐Ÿช Planets have family types, too! And astronomers say there are 2.

Turns out, a planetโ€™s family depends on its home #star. โญ

These insights might help us know where to look to find life in the galaxy! ๐ŸŒŽ

Find out what the 2 types are here: buff.ly/HXDO6Sk

Hi stargazers!

Tonight, just after sunset, watch for the waxing crescent #moon hanging close to the bright star #Antares in Scorpius. Theyโ€™ll be easier to spot โ€“ farther from the sunset โ€“ the farther south you are on Earth. ๐ŸŒ’๐ŸŒŒ

What is the closest star to our sun? It's #ProximaCentauri! ๐ŸŒŒ

It isnโ€™t visible to the eye. Yet itโ€™s one of the most noted #stars in the heavens. Why? Because itโ€™s part of the #AlphaCentauri system, the closest star system to our sun. There are 3 stars in the system.

Have you thought about trying astrophotography? ๐ŸŒŒ๐Ÿ“ธ

Meet Mike Shaw. He is an award-winning astrophotographer, author, speaker and teacher. EarthSky's Deborah Byrd caught up with him to ask: What is #astrophotography? The video drops at noon CDT (17 UTC) today. Join us!

#Aquarius is a #constellation located between #Capricornus and #Pisces, best viewed under dark skies. And now is one of the best times of the year to spot it! โœจ

Auroras possible tonight!

A stream of fast solar wind is currently billowing from the sun to Earth. Plus, a great burst of solar material might glance our planet later today. Combined, this could trigger #auroras at northerly latitudes. Will you see them from your location?

Moon challenge! ๐ŸŒ™

Can you spot the young crescent moon after sunset? It's trickier in the Northern Hemisphere in autumn, when the moon sits low on the horizon. In the Southern Hemisphere, spring brings a better view!

Bonus: spot bright red star Antares nearby.

Meet the weirdest #cloud on Mars! โ˜๏ธ๐Ÿ”ด
