Secondly Ackerson could just be that evil. He's an inexplicable point of history, with so many different interpretations.

Like if you watched Ackerson on a computer feed, he would look normal, whereas the person he's speaking directly to would see and feel the presence of something otherworldly. Maybe ONI might actually have a deactivated occult unit, and Ackerson might just be the result of it.

This one is important for me to highlight, cause I don't want to invite the: "mental illness makes you evil" trope. For Ackerson to exist in such a sophisticated medically advanced system, there's something to his instability and rationality that's more like possession than clinical mental illness.

Colonel Ackerson being a literal supernatural demon is a valid interpretation of MTIO. At some point he may have lost control of his physical body or is motivated by a pact for resources & power. It's not like Halsey's genius being interpreted as arcane sorcery in the far future.
