Great to be out talking to residents in Strood West this morning with local councillors and Medway Labour.
Dame Esther was a remarkable woman whose courage and kindness touched many lives. It was an honour to have her support when I brought forward the assisted dying bill this year. She was a powerful voice for terminally ill people. My deepest condolences to her family and those who loved her.
Looking forward to joining LabourList, the British Retail Consortium and industry leaders today to discuss how we can create more opportunities for young people and tackle the NEET crisis through jobs, skills and apprenticeships.
£15 million a year to bring back the Union Learning Fund. Labour are helping working people gain new skills, access training and adapt to the opportunities created by new technology and AI.
I’m looking forward to joining The St Martin’s Group’s panel discussion this afternoon at Labour Conference, discussing how we can create more opportunities for young people through better access to skills, apprenticeships and quality careers.
I was pleased to support a constituent who was facing delays with an HMRC repayment. After raising the issue with HMRC, her outstanding payment was made and she was offered redress for the inconvenience caused. If you are facing a similar issue, please do not hesitate to get in touch with my office.
I recently attended the Corps of the Royal Engineers Annual Memorial Service to mark the 25th anniversary of UK troops deploying to Afghanistan. Delighted to hear that the Royal Engineers Books of Remembrance will move from Westminster Abbey to their new permanent home at Rochester Cathedral too.
There’s still time to apply to join the Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board and help shape how £20m of funding is spent in Strood West. Applications close Monday, so if you’re interested apply now here: buff.ly/mPEn2va
As Vice Chair of the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee, I welcome our latest report on the ONS and UK Statistics Authority. We need to learn from past failures and rebuild trust in the data these institutions provide.

My statement following the defeat of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill in the House of Commons. This is hugely disappointing for thousands of terminally ill people and their loved ones. The law as it stands is simply too cruel and unjust.
Great to speak to Politics.co.uk ahead of today’s Second Reading of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill.
In the interview, I set out why this legislation matters, the issues we need to address, and why getting it right is so important.

My article in today's Guardian on why I am sending the assisted dying bill back to the Lords and why the will of the elected chamber – and a popular, compassionate piece of legislation – must not be frustrated again by a small minority of peers:
An excellent article from my Labour colleague Catherine Fookes in Labourlist today, explaining why she will be backing my assisted dying bill on Friday:
My Labour colleague Baroness Mattinson on the enduring public support for assisted dying and the democratic case for sending my Private Members Bill back to the House of Lords:
Two brave and dedicated campaigners who were denied the right to "go out on their own terms" as they wished but who never stopped fighting so that others could have that choice in future:
Thank you to Humanists UK for hosting a meeting to brief MPs ahead of my bill on assisted dying returning to the House of Commons this Friday. One of the most important and progressive changes to the law we can make as Parliamentarians: buff.ly/iBSBKTE
It was lovely to meet Thomas Mayo last week. Thomas is a leading voice for indigenous rights in Australia. He co-led the campaign for Australia’s Voice referendum, speaking with thousands of Australians about the Uluru Statement from the Heart.
Over 100 members of the House of Lords are urging MPs to send my assisted dying bill back “as quickly as possible” we consider it this Friday. The cross-party list of signatories includes Neil Kinnock, Ruth Davidson, Harriet Harman, David Blunkett, Alf Dubs and David Willetts: buff.ly/HnPVRXT
A powerful read. Gaynor's dying wish was that her family carry on the fight to change the law and end the suffering created by the status quo:
