Clock, shock & Ribble; Preston (West) & Ashton on Ribble, 1929. *NEW MAP* Another beautiful sweep of Lancashire mill-town, another introduction filled with stories, panache and character from Alan Crosby. If you’re a football history fan, you might recognise a name in our text sample…

We also include an extract of Kelly’s Directory with this map, containing hundreds of names, addresses and occupations – something I love to get lost in! The trinity of map, introduction and context are a real treat for anyone with a passing interest in #Bristol and her brilliant people.

I think they're on the national gallery website somewhere.

His coastal sketches and later work based on them *around Whitby I think) are worth looking up if you can.

Past and current glories: #Bristol (NW) & Clifton 1882.

As usual our introduction acts as a historical & contextual primer; Bristol pulls in the novice & expert alike and has the reader constantly flipping over to the map to look at the vibrantly coloured streets, houses & prominent features.

I’ve talked about Stirling Castle and Holy Rood before on this account, so why not look at something more modern? As well as the rail-y good text and map samples today, here’s a timetable sample included with our map too! Isn’t there something alluring in the layout & those dream-like names? -Andrew

Pounding the streets; Stirling 1860. If had a penny for every pun I could write for this map…but instead lets ‘change’ tack! Alan Godfrey dashes brightly through his introduction; battles, royals, religion, geography and much more are discussed, but I’m going to focus on railways again here!

Our colour range is wonderful. In a small array of colours they convey warm sands, cool waters, bustling building and busy roads. Our introduction adds to the wonder, mentioning submerged forests, strong-headed fisherwomen and breathtaking building over the centuries. Our maps are never just maps!

The model of a very British coastal town; Penzance 1877. The Godfrey Edition maps have turned me into an unapologetic railway nut. The main reason for this can be seen in our text sample. This new technology spread so quickly, changing the way we all live our lives & where we live them! -Andrew.

This isn’t just a river & a canal, a cattle market and a railway station. This is a modernist artwork: Swirls of colour and stark dark lines swish around calming boxy shapes in tranquil pinks. It feels alive - and in a way it represents life & movement, and the power of humanity over the landscape.

Great men, and the great dreams they build; Bristol (SE) 1882. Andrew here. I might bang on about how beautiful maps are (because they are when you really look at them!), but you probably agree a fair bit if you’re following us. So here’s a slice of heaven; a piece of the mundane made majestic!
