@who.int's Disease Outbreak News on pneumonia of undetermined cause in the Russian Federation is out, detailing information available so far:
People with lived experience are asked to share their stories but are often excluded from policy decisions.
We call on all decision makers to move from listening to action & build mental health systems with people who live with mental health conditions, not merely for them.
Since the first media reports, @who.int has been actively following up on the reported death of a laboratory worker at the Irkutsk Antiplague Research Institute in Irkutsk oblast, Russian Federation.
My full statement ⬇️
@who.int advises against any restriction of travel to, or trade with, the affected countries based on the currently available information. We continue to closely monitor and, where necessary, verify travel and trade measures in relation to this epidemic.
@who.int is supporting the governments of Kenya, the DRC, and Uganda in contact tracing, surveillance, screening, and other response measures to rapidly identify potential cases and prevent further spread of the virus.
Good news from @who.int ahead of the weekend: people are living longer.
Global life expectancy reached 73.3 years in 2023, almost fully recovering the years lost during COVID-19 ⬇️
Now we must make sure people don’t just live longer, but live those extra years in good health. #HealthForAll
That’s a wrap on #UNGA.
Different countries.
Different priorities.
Different perspectives.
But health is one thing that connects us all.
Preparedness for future health threats is a shared responsibility.
One meeting, many thoughts. Another day at #UNGA.
Pandemic prevention, preparedness and response is not just an aspiration. It is a global public good.
My one ask to world leaders at the #UNGA High-Level Meeting: get the Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing annex to the Pandemic Agreement done. As soon as possible.
Walk. Talk. Listen. Repeat.
Another day of health diplomacy in motion at #UNGA.
We welcome today’s Call to Action on Humanitarian access and Health, and thank 🇬🇧, 🇶🇦 and 🇯🇴 for keeping Gaza’s health needs high on the #UNGA agenda.
The best medicine is peace. Until then, we must do everything possible to save lives, alleviate suffering and restore access to health care.
@who.int’s call is clear: rapid, sustained and unhindered humanitarian access. Medical supplies must get in, health facilities must be restored, referral pathways reopened, and medical evacuations expanded.
Nearly a year after the ceasefire, #Gaza remains a humanitarian and public health emergency. The health system is under immense strain, and needs remain enormous.
From one conversation to the next, day 3 of making space for health at #UNGA.
This #UNGA, @eib.org and @who.int came together to discuss how to mobilise capital at scale alongside development banks, philanthropy and the private sector to turn health challenges into investment opportunities and measurable results.
Together! #HealthForAll
Meeting rooms. Corridors. Elevators.
We need bold new thinking on how we finance #HealthForAll. Day 2 of #UNGA was about finding it.
